Hi Larry, nice photo of the Scammel R8, my father drove one for P&P transport Bridgend after leaving the army at the end of the war.
Regards, Allan
I still use an old Be-Ro recipe from before WW2 to make my fruit cake, at least the company is still trading after almost a century. Back in the sixties one of their J Type Bedford 5 ton vans broke down and myself and the chap I was apprenticed too went out in the Morris J2 pickup to tow it in. We used a chain and the driver, who had specs on like jamjar bottoms, kept stamping on the bloody brakes and making the pickup struggle so my mate went and told him to stop doing it. Next set of traffic lights were on red; we stopped but the Bedford didn’t and pushed us halfway across the junction! My mate got out again to bollock the ■■■■ and all the driver said was “you told me not to stamp on the brakes so I didn’t bother using them at all”! He didn’t seem to be the sharpest tool in the box!

Great stuff Tyneside, The Payroll film is worth watching, There is a couple of Bambroughs Thames Trader tippers in it, Regards Larry.
St Andrews Street market just as I remember it while delivering a load of apples loaded from Hull docks in 1964. Organised chaos all controlled by a rather portly copper who liked to be refreshed with whisky from the various wholesalers premises otherwise delivering lorries were moved on!!
Cheers, Leyland 600.
