My first posting! Hope pictures not too small- anyway they show ECN 930 as sold by Cawthorn & Sinclair around early '60s, then in service with my old employer, E.Robson(Gateshead)Ltd. Not me in picture, though!
Robsons of Gateshead thats a blast from the past, A old pal of mine drove an old Atki KRM ■■?, Ronnie Bright, in later years he worked at Shorties in the fitting shop, then he had his own place on Shearlegs road, I used to see some of their drivers at the Pantry Cafe at Brierley Hill plus Gowlands as well, Happy Days, Regards Larry.
Lawrence, that is Ronnie Bright in picture! I tried to locate him a few years back, but his old neighbour told me that he had emigrated to Australia but sadly died some time later. The Atki you remember was KRM 917 ex Hendersons? from Alston. It ended up with a brand new cab after having some steel dropped on it from a crane whilst loading in South Wales.I have a picture of KRM 917 I will dig out. Some other wagons at Robsons were three Guy Warroirs, bought secondhand, these were the ones before the Andy Capp cab. they had the Meadows 4 cyl engine and Eaton 2 speed axle. The front wings, grille and engine cover were all made from Fibreglass- not a good idea as they were easilly damaged by vibrations from the the 4 pot motor, minor bumps and being stood on! Sometimes trips were made to Guy Motors at Wolverhampton to collect replacements when trips were made to Birmingham. K&B motors were the local Guy dealers at Benwell. Message to myself- must try and upload bigger photo’s!!
