not far off the 200 mark now brian

Aye we’ve all done canny over the last couple of years. Bet there’s still some NE companies that’s not been given a mention but there’s plenty of time. Here’s a few local ones I don’t think have had a mention: G O Mitchell, ran a fleet of Bedford TKs in Hendon, Wearside Carriers D series Fords, Marley’s tippers, somebody must have some pics of these. Then there’s own account operators like Vedrapak who ran a black Maggie Deutz in Hendon, Texaco on the South Dock, Edward Thomson the bingo book printers from the Sheepfolds who had a Leyland Roadtrain as well as a variety of 4 wheel box vans, Thompsons sawmills, Walkers Century Oils in Spelterworks Road, Steels Engineering on Leechmere Road and MEP also on the Leechmere. Just to set the ball rolling here’s a pic of the Iveco 190/30 I drove for John Kerss Services on Sunderland Docks in the eighties, and also his Roadtrain.

hello brian,

i put a few of MEP,s lorrys on way back that was a good job in its day , the merc what steels engineering had i drove it for a year till they shut the factory down another good job that was. alfie mcdonnell did a lot of work out of their, and freeway haulage ended up in their aswell

Alfie McDonnel thats another name from the past, used to own Tennerhurst shotblasting down Spelterworks Road. I knew a couple of lads worked there, Billy Mather and little Davey.

Hi Mark
As far as I’m aware its still in the old NCB loco shed at Leam Lane. Apparently the engine is a runner but they are having major difficulty in sourcing window frames for it.

Steve

Andersons of Westerhope they ran F7 tippers which were a bit rough round the edges They were up working in the Dumfries area in the ninties there was a scotch driver who stayed in the N.East on for them can anyone remember his name Eddie.

hi steve,

is it painted or anything yet, or as you say just the same as it was 30yr ago, good to hear the engine still goes ok, someone will feel sorry for it one day.

regards

mark

Here’s a couple more I took at the Honeyfarm. regards Kev.
