Hi boys
I know it’s strictly not Shropshire but just north of Whitchurch over the boarder into Cheshire there was a firm called Devenports from Aston. They run quite a few trucks at one time then ended up with a red F10 6x2 and drag with one son(Brian) driving and another son(Jack) as mate.About 20 years ago Brian had health problems and lost his HGV. I went to drive it for them for a couple of years with Jack still as mate until they packed up in about 1992.Jack RIP died a couple of years later. We used to do all the local markets and deliver to loads of slaughter houses as well as doing all the big shows.Anyone that says livestock is easy has not done it,It was all early starts collecting for the markets, hang about all day at the markets then late nights delivering to the slaughter houses.Plus they ether would not get on or would not get off![]()
Harry you would have liked that motor a proper drag and with the tag up on the truck easy to shunt

hello keith, i dont think so we are down south west, we run the drawbar for 5 years on our won stock and then re cabbed it with a highline cab and engine, then run it without the trailer with a piggy back forklift on roofing sheets, we then exported it about 5 years ago, sorry , like your self, we donot have any pics, rgds janner
hello everyone, sorry i know this is an old post but came across it the other day and couldnt help but to join and leave some comments. Basil Jukes is my great uncle and we now have a fleet of four bedfords and a morris van finish in jukes colours.(two browns and red mudguards) if you would like me to post some pictures then that would be brilliant and i love to hear about the old times had. were just restoring a bedford s type at the moment which belonged to M.A Evans of knighton. it was the green S Type and we acquired it from a yard in nottingham last year. its all stripped down to chassis cab at the moment and will post up some pictures of that also. i know there was a thread on here and some old pictures of the lorry in its glory days. all the best
Mike

I lifted this from the Thames Trader post - thought it might be of interest on here - nasty looking crash for sure - I used to see Wm Rowe at Banbury market frequently - I thought they were a Northants firm but it says Rugeley - perhaps I’m mixed up with S T Challis and Charlie ■■■■.
Getting on you see!
Gardner 120:
I took this at Banbury summer either 1992 or 93. 1993 I think … The Bedford is Wm Rowe & Sons. I remember them at Banbury from the mid 70s and also Charlie ■■■■ and S T Chalis.
I used to go to Banbury regular in early 70’s with my uncle on Morgan’s from Shaftesbury. Good days, also remember ■■■■’s and Challis but a lot have slipped my memory now. All the Banbury photos are good but does anyone have any 70’s photos?
Very interesting thread
I’m sure charl can shed some info on the knight of the road!!!

8 wheeler double decker MJ Parry
Lorry and draw bar trailer MJ Parry
Great photo Charlie - loving the old school 8 legger and drawbar
how are you keeping , i was looking at haydons on here on sunday. ihad a 8 wheeler and trailor for a while, then they bought a 4 wheel mandator and trailor . it is on here a few pages back. when you look at 8 wheeler double decker they were far ahead of there time . that would have been at least 45 years ago.
It is with great regret that I must report that the roads of Shropshire will be quieter from today as Mac Arrowsmith sadly passed away yesterday. Many of you will have met Mac either at the auctions or on the road driving 3622 VT his 1963 Dodge cattle truck which was still his daily drive. God bless Mac and thanks for everything. H
Mac
Arrowsmith was one of the " old school " of livestock hauliers.
He had many interesting stories to tell from during his long career, and will be greatly missed.
Condolences to his family at this sad time .
Thank you, cattle wagon man.
RIP, Mac.
I remember looking over Mac’s Dodge when it was just a few months old and thereafter spotting it quite regularly throughout the next fifty or so years. One of the “Old Boys” who will leave a hole in the lives of folk who were fortunate to meet him.
RIP Mac Arrowsmith.Condolences to his family.
