This was one of two of these marsden Leylands once owned by Charles wood of Cowley .

I was approaching the Evenlode pub just after 3pm and came upon the repatriation cortege from Raf Brize; I stopped tp let the standard bearers step into the road to pay respects and after a minute or two they moved back; The thanks I received included waves, applause and a salute from an old soldier…very humbling.
I suppose good pr for Smiths and lorry drivers generally…

These are in the USA, but I do remember them at Cowley from time to time.

Edit. Just realised two of the photos were Flickr pics, so have deleted.

Good on you boy, during my time as a city bus driver in the 50s, part of our instruction manual stated that when on the same raod/street as a funeral we had to get down from the cab with hat off in respect, stand by the bus until the cortege had passed.

Tight fit in Tackley :open_mouth:

Seen in Oxford. Lovely to drive apparently, but slow when compared to Constructors and later Foden 6ws with the ■■■■■■■ 220…as driven by Dad and Windrush

Pete James at the wheel of “Enslow Supreme”, being loaded by Irvin Woods.

Second from right is the “infamous” Godfrey Smith…Still well respected and fondly remembered by his drivers some 15 years or so after his death. I only met him once as a boy when Dad (on a days holiday) called in at Enslow to get his wages and Dad sat me in an old Leyland Constructor (might’ve been his old one VWL 513X) before it was sold…Godfrey came over and said “You want to sit ina new one, chap!”…and sat me in the one behind him G160 BLM. This was the 4000th 4000 series and she was still going strong when I started driving. It was the best 6wheeler I’ve ever driven, comfortable, went well and growled like (zb)ggery when loaded. Smoked like a train to just to impress Greenpeace

Not a Fred Dibnah job, but Walkers’ Mill Chimney is brought down during demolition of it’s Crofts Mill, Witney. Now the Weavers Close Housing Estate.

You can tell it ain’t one of Fred’s as he would have been running from underneath it, squidging his bulb horn! Mind you, if it was a dynamite job, it could have been one of ‘Blaster’ Bates’ :sunglasses:

Heres a couple for you Jakey

Sheehans’ FH low loader unit’s lasted them well Routeman; T reg I think it is
