Old Firms in Oxford Area

Nice pics Lightswitch, I remember Burys’ tankers as a kid. Went to Ewelme with Dad hauling clay from Bishops Cleeve early 90s, Dad drove an 8 wheeler almost identical to the Bury one. I get into Grundon pits occasionally, usually the new flint quarry at Colthrop near Thatcham and sometimes the grit-sand pit at Faringdon.
Took this pic of a D.A Claytons of Bicester artic on the A420 ■■■■■■ bypass today

Alan Long had this motor new and after a couple of weeks he swopped me for my wagon and drag, I had it for 2 years, a brilliant wagon, never missed a beat, mostly running to Scotland. My late wife took this photo when I called home for an overnight case, Two of my kids now 49 and 52, the boy drove for MacKenna, he now lives in Ireland

Hi Lightswitch, this old girl finished up with Edgeley Transport in Bedfordshire, the cab was repainted in red.
I think she was scrapped a few years back.

The Last Chance transport cafe at Wheatley, they did not come much rougher, could have been the Last Chance Saloon in Dodge City, this photo mid to late 50s, I would say it probably shut forever around 1960.

Under better weather conditions, bet those buses were sounding the end of the railway at Chippi’. The line beyond Chippi’ lost it’s passenger trains the previous summer; would’ve loved to have seen those 1000ton ironore trains run over Hook Norton viaduct.

You’re probably right about the closure date; I’ve read the Wheatley bypass opened 1961 when the now-disused rail bridge over the A40 was put in. Took down less than 10 years later (what a waste of money) it was built to be split into two and so got recycled in Wales somewhere.

Dieseldogsix,
A load of Triumph Spitfires, most likely on their way to Honeybourne, note the headamps blanked awaiting glass, this would be fitted at storage. Standard Triumph leased storage at Honeybourne airfield in Worcestershire. We used to load Cowley made cars to Coventry then 2 Coventry/Honeybournes, then load from Honeybourne to wherever.
The motor in the pic if I remember correctly would be Brockhouse built with an electric lift for the top deck and skids for the bottoom, we had similar 9 cars but built by Carrimore.
