I don’t know how many roadtrains they ran but I do remember a Daf 95 among all them Erf’s

haddy:
Can anyone remember a Dutch cattle importer called Butellarr ( not sure about the spelling ) who had a yard in Boston in the late '60s/early '70s. They shipped out of Yarmouth and ran bonnetted AEC drawbar outfits, light blue if my memory serves me correctly. Regards to all, Haddy.

i actually worked for Frans Buitelaar at his Boston site between 88 and 94 (when he eventually closed down). he imported live cattle into Yarmouth and Boston until the late 70’s. he had sold all his own fleet by the time i worked there, bar one old motor, can’t remember the make, that used to shunt cattle between the sheds on boston dock and the abattoir a mile away. you remember the colour scheme. light blue cabs and darker blue boxes. at the time i worked for him, he was till slaughtering up to 2,000 head of cattle per week at Boston and another 800 a week in Kilmarnock at an abattoir formerly owned by Scotts of Kilmarnock. he sold out due to increasing debt in the end, and moved to Scotland from Lincolnshire, where he has since died from cancer, i believe. His son now runs a similar business in Ireland.

Does anybody have any photos or history on TH Browns lorries in Euroshires livery that used to handle, store and deliver a lot of Hydro fertiliser.

I have two not so good polaroids of a Euroshires liveried Scania in Scanlinks yard, I’ll get them dug out and scanned for you.

Cheers

Can only find the one photo, but here it is.

Cracking pic TBOG

As I mentioned before, it is time to say goodbye this Friday to “Kettleby Kev”. Despite trying to talk him into stopping on part time (Monday to Friday), Kev is retiring this coming Friday with a day of celebrations at the quarry followed by an open weekend at Kev’s house at the weekend. I’m sure there will be a lot of loads tipped, miles covered and diesel burnt over the weekend not forgetting down shifting of crash gearboxes. Kettleby won’t be the same without our “Revving Kevin” but we are all wishing him a long and happy retirement.

Early Hurlin pic now, I believe this Seddy Atki was driven by Bernard Wilkinson and is loaded with new JCB’s on what looks like Artic Trailers (Gissing) low loader.

I am suprised that i can’t find any pictures from cattle transports to the Boston docks Frans Buitelaar exported thousands of cattle yo all over europe in the 60s and 70s ,
I was engeneer on the ship Johanna Buitelaar for 7 years and i have plenty of pics from the Dutch part of the Buitelaar Company ,is it possible to put some on here ?

Yes please

Back in the 70’s and early 80’s there was a small fleet of 8 wheeler tippers based in Alexandra Road Grimsby, about where Matalan and SCS are now built.
The surname was Wright, it could have been Wrights Transport but I seem to remember them haveing a Christian name on too, possibly Ian, but I could be making that bit up.
Anyone have any idea who i’m on about?

Hi TBOG I remember seeing them but thats all , could they have been blue lorries ? Geoff

W

H

Yes, they were blue Geoff, a lightish blue if i remember right.

As for being Foden’s ISHIFT5, I had it in my head they were Foden’s but wouldn’t have been confident enough to comit myself without someone else saying so first.

Another Grimsby outfit long gone is Grahm Smiths who where on Gilbey Rd near Fishmeal, Yellow cabbed ridgids with drawbar trailers.

They worked for Nor-Cargo who i think bought them out.

Not sure if this one was theirs but this was the colour and set up although i think they had all Scania’s.

Hi TBOG I can remember Graham Smiths lorries they had some ERF A and B series but could have been all Scania at the end . One of the ERFs had a rough ending on Riby drag think the driver collapsed at the wheel and died , that happened about 1978 / 1979 . Think they used to do some Tioxide as well as Nor cargo . Geoff

I dont think they had ANY ERF A or B series , they had ERF Mthen all Scania ridgids but bought two old tractors a Guy bigJ ` and ERF 64 G , the ERF driver was forced off the road and his load of steel bars killed him as the pastic kabin had no protection , you can keep your ERF and Atkinsons .

Hi TBOG, Have read this was originally T H Browns.

Yes it was Brown’s, first time i’ve seen it sig written though. It went over Preston way when it was sold.
It also doesn’t have the original tipper body on it.
