We didn’t have much choice then did we?
You know how it went, you do several trips with no tyre problems, then you have a trip with nothing but tyre problems.
I was heading for Kuwait, and halfway down the Tapline I had a flat after already using my two spares,so a day off parked on the side of the Tapline to have a tyre repair session, and sort out the best position for the tyres I had.
I’m sure our tyre supplier would have been glad to come out to me,if there had been a 'phone within 500 miles!
Hey, And on such trips you were Lucky if you only had tyres problem.
Terry F:
Having worked for OHS for about eight years I find these threads very interesting as they have brought back some good memories. Memories of people I had to my shame forgotten. Other names I now remember are: Nick Carter, Nigel Edwards, John Curran and a load more Johns but sadly no surnames and Tony Gambleton, others have already had a mention, During that eight year period OHS employed many drivers, many of which you never got to meet as we were all going to different place in different direction it wasn’t surprising really. But I do remember Andy. I recall ringing up for job and was told to go to they base for an interview. Arriving at the appointed time I was shown into the drivers rest room to wait, and wait I did. Towards the close of the day this guy (Andy) came in and said, “Bugger if I’d have known it was you, you wouldn’t have had to come down here. When can you start?” I started a week later in early 1979.
Hiya “Terry F” Just browsing I noticed BillyPreston not mentioned we
called him (Bootsie) for obvious reasons. He also worked for Drakard
in Felixstowe when he moved from Lancashire.I know he was at OHS for a time.
Did you ever come across him■■?

hiya “Jazzandy” Still browsing round these old forums. Noticed you mentioned you were
Transport manager for OHS do you remember Billy Preston that was there. He moved around to some
great jobs as you will Know Not heard or seen him for over 40yrs.Also Terry changing them tyres brought back some
mems as well. When we started going out there we spent a week in the garage changing tyres, also putting snow chains
on and off so that we had some idea. The main thing I think and was told be sure them rims were on firm or they
would take your head off. (Good old days)
Take care.

Now that’s my idea of a 40’ TIR-tilt: lots of ground-clearance, even under the side boxes and wheel carrier. But wait a minute - I’m only little. How am I going to reach those TIR-cord eyelets and drop-side clasps? Robert
And while I’m on this thread, I have say that I (somewhat eccentrically) rather admire those left-■■■■■■ Sed-Atki 400s. Allegedly, they had NTC 335 ■■■■■■■ lumps in them and if that’s true - excellent choice. I used to drive a RHD SA 400 which had the usual inside-out and frack-to-bunt 9-speed Fuller in it. I assume these OHS units also had 9sp Fullers, or did they have 13sp Fullers instead? I imagine that the round-the-houses gearshift pattern may have been a little more palatable in a LHD lorry - a bit like the Scania 10-speed was! Just wondered… Picture below shows an OHS one in civvies. Robert

Is this the sexiest truck on the old OHS fleet?
I collected this new from Antwerp with a new Dorsey skeletal flatbed trailer and brought it over to Rainham to Tilt Tek. Picked up a brand new completed tilt and this is a picture of the rig after servicing and washing by the Contex crew at Pinar Basi near Izmir after the first trip.

Used to be a couple of OHS or ex OHS macks in Izmir when i used ti deliver to the BMC factory there, they used to be in a yard near to the electronics factory I reloaded at sometimes.
Hi Nazmi Ozcan, I answered you question on the other OHS thread, I drove for you from the Rainham yard using a F86 most of the time. I am sure the year was about 77 or 78, you asked my name ? its Anthony Joseph although I had joined OHS to do ME work, I never got their with OHS so after a time of shunting with the Volvo I moved on. Enjoyed my time with OHS shame it did not go further.,.,., AJ
