Off to Almaty

I have a short list of 3 for e book companies, I looked at a while back. There are also self publishing deals around the place that I have look at, some of which offer an ebook as part of the package. The trouble is for as many people that say they’re good there are as many that say don’t touch them. I’ve had a look at some of the related blogs as well but you don’t know who the poster actually is, they could be genuine folk or perhaps some one related to the company just sprooking up their own product.
Andy as far as editing goes my wife has a masters in English and has her own books already published, so I’m fairly confident in her work, but just to make sure I go over it after she’s done, as her knowledge on truck stuff is limited to some long haul runs in the truck with me.
As far as misinterpretations goes… Oh er misses, would you like a ride on my bike.

There seems to be a few folk on here that are, or have the possibility of writing a book or at least long stories, perhaps we should start a thread for that. It would be interesting to see what comes up.

Jeff

There are others on here who have already had theirs published Prowlands being one of them. You may well have already tried them but Old pond seem to publish that type of stuff.

Looks like you"re sorted on the editing front. Sorry for trying to ‘teach my granny’!

But please get it published. Looks extremely interesting to me.

I tried a few publishers with my platform, only heard back from one and that was a no thanks, it was Haynes, the people that do the car manuals amongst other things. Mine is a similar thing to yours, a life on the road, but without so many exotic destinations. I’ve got credentials of sorts too as I’ve had loads of stuff published, but a book is a whole different story (pardon the pun) Jeff, as your wife will no doubt confirm, persistence is the key to getting published, I’d hold off on the ebook thing until you’ve exhausted all other avenues if I were you…Unless you put out something on ebooks as a taster, once you’re a known quantity you may find it changes everything to a publisher

No offense taken Mr Jazz, some times it’s often the obvious thing that are missed.

I’ve a had quite a few articles published in magazines, however there doesn’t seem to be any kind of connection between the magazine world and books, if there is no one’s letting on. Any way I have a hide like a Rhino, either that or I’m just to dumb to take no for an answer so I’ll just keep sending it out to as many houses as I think are relevant.

Head down and charge forward until you hit something solid.

Jeff

Good luck to both of you. As Chuechill said ‘Never, never give up!’

I’ll bump this for some of those who are interested in the whole Russian thing… Also if you venture into the parallel universe of Truck photos there’s on trucks of Central Asia…

Jeff…

Hi Jeff and the rest of forum.

I got email about this topic and have not been on this site for a long time. Great to see still some interest in the way east and love to see other peoples stories as it brings back both good and bad memories but majority good for me. Some things on the job that we took as normal would be classed as madness in the UK. For me the first trip ever in a truck to a gold mine in the desert of Uzbekistan was a complete eye opener and a great way to learn with Frank as the teacher in a truck I had love and hate for being the iveco 520 semi auto eurostar. What an experience they years of my life were and would never change it.
Reg Colin

Hi Colin good of you to drop in, hope you’re doing well… It doesn’t matter how big your Space cab or Globetrotter is… it’s never going to be as good as sleeping in your own bed at home…

Jeff…

Double post

Jeff…

but i would like to know more from Rikki’s mate who says he went there.Having run with guys from Cantrells through the 70s i never heard of anyone going to USSR for them

Long discussions have been ongoing- the chap spent most of the late 60’s and 70’s working for some of the more dubious London companies- ending up running internals in the M/E . he has some illuminating photo’s and documentation that verify he isn’t talking out of his backside. The problem he has is that some of the people he was involved with are still alive and have very long memories and reach - so he is going to tell his story to a writer known and trusted by him to be published after his death. I did ask him when Cantrells folded, he had left Cantrells by then and was working for another east London dodgy outfit, he cant remember the exact year but reckoned it was about 10 minutes after the flying squad raided the Roman Road warehouse  I

Ok, here is an old thread from 13 years ago :open_mouth:viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3381&p=29437&hilit=irkutsk#p29437

A trip to Irkutsk :open_mouth:

Hi Jeff and Bullitt its great to see the memories being bumped up again.
The trip I broke down with Frank made me grow up very fast! So many things happened that trip that I could never have believed would. When we finally gave up at the police post on the outskirts of Atbasar Kazakhstan and bid farewell to Tim who was driving for Peter Gilder we were parked in what could be described as waste land between the police post and an old run down cafe run by Victor who I got to know really well by the time I left with Frank 11 days later. This area was also used by what can only be described as the local hatchet squad who put cars over an old concrete ramp for inspection and depending if the locals could pay the bribe or not was the decider to whether they would be given a permit to travel to the neighbouring district!!! This I found hard to believe but was happening every day in front of me before I went to visit Frank in hospital. How Frank came to being in hospital was funny to me as the waste land we were parked up waiting for Iveco was gravel and I desperately needed the toilet so took a bag and done what I needed to do under the trailer and then skipped the bag but Frank not happy decided I should have gone into the waste land behind us. Well his good decision to do this later that night gave him eight days in hospital as he got bitten in the nether regions and then proceeded to swell up like an elephants trunk!!
