Speed limit is 70 MPH cameras cant tell between day or night empty motorway or busy they are set and thats it. 60000 per year, like its been said you should have known better, pay up and put it down as a lesson learned, unless you get caught again then it won
t have been
Well I sympathise with you mate, even if many more don’t.
As I said on the thread when the guy got caught using his phone (a lot of guys on there also who have never done anything wrong in their pristine holier than thou lives ) …‘‘This is the good old UK’’ any excuse to make a quick buck,.and if they can justify it smugly under the false agenda of road safety…even better, because then it makes them look like they are actually doing something at the same time…brilliant eh?
So yeh, you’ll just have to ■■■■ it up mate.
Most of us know and accept that 80mph is safe on a M.way 99.9% of the time, but that aint the point, because Wait for it…
It aint about safety!
The cameras are there primarily, and arguably SOLELY to generate money, and much easier than actual policing, so as for appealling? …they will simply not be interested mate, no chance… end of.
The ironic thing about this is (bearing in mind the official agenda of ‘‘Road Safety’’ ) that all the other RS aspects are widely ignored by many drivers, because the speed cameras have no way of policing them, and there are virtually no longer any Police on there.
And that people, is the reason for the cluster ■■■■ of crap driving on our Mways that we all see everyday, that is got away with on a daily basis, but you are getting done for 80 on a quiet Mway at night.
As I said Good old UK eh.

On the money Rob however, don’t you think the OP is being a bit dim by contributing willingly to the fundraising exercise?

evening guys just wanted some advice ivejust had a nop from other night 23:30 at night on the m5 jct 16/17 north 81mph empty motorway fixed gantry camera.
is it worth pursuing or ■■■■ it up I cant believe there doing me for 81mph don’t ya just love this country
I’m a cab driver doing 60,000 a year btw
cheers.
I’m not going to have a go, it would be hypocritical as my last load of points have just expired, but you know the limits, if you do 60,000 a year, you probably have a good guess at the leeway you get and how accurate your speedo is, and you should also know cameras don’t have discretion for empty road, weather conditions etc.
So you’re going to have to ■■■■ it up, or start revolution, where we destroy all the records this evil regime holds on us. However the first option is more likely.
thanks for replies guys,
some good views there I can accept what a lot of you are saying just think it was a very snidey way of doing somebody and really couldn’t see a proper police officer doing me for it,
also some good views robroy!! I think I might be eligible for speed awareness course so ill try that but if not never mind eh hazard of the job I suppose.

It’s only a hazard of the job if you make it so…
It’s a bugger mate, but i’m constantly amazed even in good clear conditions where those HADECS things bolted to the Nearside gantry are plainly visible how many go hurtling past way above 80.
You’ll have to update your observation, or get an database update on your satnav or camera spotting device.

Did you not realise you were entering a managed motorway section there’s gantries every few hundred yards and it’s been there for several years now. You’ll almost definitely get a speed awareness course.
81 mph is a bit tough…
Bad luck and I hope you get a speed awareness course rather than the points.
I will certainly take notice of your post and keep below 80 when in the car.

Sure is.
In the not to distant past, 80 MPH on a motorway at night was considered fairly normal, infact it was also considered fairly normal during the day!

Surely everyone knows these managed motorway sections have speed cameras and more stringent speed checks!!
Was the NOP issued within 14 days of the offence occurring?

If you haven’t done a speed awareness course within the last 3 years you will probably get offered one of them once you send the form back to say who was driving

You are not eligable for a speed awareness course. I’m not sure off the top of my head while getting ready for work, but its either 10mph over the limit or 10% over the limit.
You were 11mph or 15% over so its straight to points and a fine.
Besides, a professional driver shouldn’t be offered the course IMO, and I say this having been on one myself. I was offered it so I took the get out of jail cheaper card but really, I thought they should have thrown the book at me. Anyone who drives for a living should know better, its pure and simple.
As for the time and the road conditions, lets have a hypothetical:
I’m properly skint, I cant afford food for my kids. So I break into your house and steal your spare laptop, flog it on and my kids get a hot meal. Should I get a lesser sentence because of my sob story? Should I get a lesser sentence because the item stolen wasn’t being used by anyone else? No, I should get the punishment that fits the crime, just as you should.
anisboy:
Pay up.
I’m assuming you’ve been done by the HADECs (by the side of the carriageway) rather than the gantry ones. If it’s the gantry ones then you would’ve had a reduced speed limit sign up.
Not in that area, Northamptonshire Police and Bedfordshire Police put out press releases about six months ago saying they were going to use gantry cams to enforce NSL on motorways.
