A local solicitor, Alan Langtree, had CEO 1 to CEO 7. EO was the Barrow registration, so although unusual not impossible if you happened to know the right person to ‘discuss’ it with.
CEO 1 was on a gold Mark X Jaguar in the late sixties, which I thought the most beautiful thing in the world.
After he died his daughter sold CEO 1 to an executive in London and I believe she got hundreds of thousands for it.
Nobody had heard of ‘Chief Executive Officer’ in the sixties, had they?
JCB was at one time reputed to have the longest run of personalised plates, from JCB 1 up to something like JCB 20.

Around 1994 I was heading into Sassuolo to pick up tiles when I was very aggressivly over taken on wrong side of the road by a blond haired man in a flash Merc AMG on german plates. Could it have been a young Michael Schumacher late for his job interview with Ferrari?? Never got chance to read the plate sadly.

Fifty years ago when we were teenagers, and before anyone had thought about cherished number plates, my brother had a Citroen ID19 with the reg DLM 1.
A few years later I had a Hillman Hunter with the reg 83 EWD.
After I sold the Hunter, a few years later I saw it in our local breakers yard, still with the number plates on, but I supposed the reg had been surrendered.
Then about a year ago I saw a Vauxhall Tigra, young lady driving, with 83 EWD on it!
I followed her to a hotel car park and enquired how she came upon the number and she told me her dad had transferred the reg from the scrapper when the Hunter was scrapped, as it was her initials

Have seen a horse box with the number H055ESS.
Hi Ian,
By coincidence, my wife and I saw HO55ESS about 2 weeks ago, heading south from Kendal.
My bank manager’s husband has an oyster farm on the coast road between Barrow and Ulverston. They bought and still have OY51ERS. She said they were hoping to get OY57ERS, but when it came around it went for silly money to a restaurateur in central London.
Used to be an old Beemer round my way with XOI 108 on it. Just looked like any old age-disguising Irish plate until it was behind you and you saw it in the mirror.

Some years ago when I worked nights, I was passed on the M1 near Leicester by a Roller with the plate H1SRR, closely followed by a second carrying HER5.
