Nottingham bus firm( middle east work

I see no pic`s either :frowning:

Iā€™ve just replaced the pics.Sorry about that.

You are lucky, we had 13, one was used for spares to keep the others going, when we formed in 1974, we had picked volvoā€™s or dafs, but we landed up with leyland marathons, we suspect someone got a backhander, because we were a major british firm, using british leylands

Apologies if you,ve seen these before, but i drove LNU 133P after its middle east days. It was owned by Mick Hayes from Fareham,Hants and i used to do Italy ,Spain and Portugal in it.

Hi mate, to be honest i lost touch when i finished with them in the early 80,s
I would think the old man Bert must be long gone by now, bless him.
Mick was still doing the odd trip til the late 80,s but i seem to remember he
was,nt too healthy then, although he still enjoyed a glass or two.

Yes it was Bartons.
I was in Teheran customs with a couple of Bartons lads for a week in 1976.

Thats amazing!! . . . i know you chaps were pioneers but why did you have to search for a telex machine when you had laptops??

Errr I dont think itā€™s a lap top, itā€™s probably a John Bull junior printing outfit. This was standard issue kit for a lot of continental drivers in those days. He has only just started using it as the queue is not very long.

Yes, the John Bull,  , Tony Buckle at WhiteTrux carried a portable typewriter and used to type out the FTA Own Account permits for all of us down in Savona as soon as our reloads were known. :unamused:

is that buckle the bubble who showed mark thatcher how to get home when he got lost in the desert alledgedly

Yes it certainly looks more up to date than it is.Truth is,them two guys were agents and Bartons driver is checking his docs in case heā€™d forgotten who his agent was.
After being there a week you tended to be brain dead and had forgotten your own name.

Quite possibly, I hadnā€™t heard that one but it does sound a bit like Tony.

You lads on about laptops, the only ones I know the ones who used to sit on you laps in the West Berliner, which was just across from Londra camp, and they certainly had tops, might have had a arm a leg or a eye missing, but I never knew of computor laptops in those days?? Just the tellex to get a message back to the office, maybe a string of beads to count on ha ha ha.
bye Norman

I dare say that you (ahem, old timers) have been asked this question before but i would really like to know which truck was most ā€œup to the jobā€ on the m/e run during the heydays of the early to late 70s?
Find it amazing that Brit drivers were doing those trips in day cabbed Guys Aec"s ect but what was the best available truck (in your"e opinion) back then?

spardo it was about 87 first time i went abroad with me dad iwas 15 he was talking to two whitetrux drivers who told the tales about him thats the only one i could remember

Yeah come on norman if you managed to find us an post on here you can do the rest. Look forward to more of your stories and pics.
Remember one of the marathons being shown on blue peter i was facinated by all the on board gear they had and always wanted to drive one (glad i didā€™nt now after all you said) not that i was old enough at the time but was always interested in m/e and still am as i had an uncle who worked fo a well known m/e company at that time.

Middle east adventures, I have quite a few, I will post them, Iā€™ve tried twice, but when I submitted them, they just disapeared, must have taken too longā– ā– ?. My daughter said she will show me how to do photoā€™s & paste messages
