Nottingham bus firm( middle east work

Jazzandy:
Nice to see the old BRS wagons. I remember the first trip they all did when they travelled in convoy, I first saw them in Europe on the way to Tehran. By the time I was on my way back I saw them at Mocamp. Next trip out they were parked in Roosevelt parking in Tehran. After I had delivered down to Abadan and then reloaded rice for Tehran, I found most of the trucks had been abandoned!

When jazz?

I think that would have been 1974 - ish!

That would be when BRS sent three lorries to Iran, big Guy and a Scania with ex SAS from Astran.

Just got a card from Joe Baker another Sandman.

Once again the thread has started to slow down to a trickle.

Didn’t have anything to contribute whilst you and Desert Rat were recounting your days on BRS overland Norm, but I have been reading the posts with interest.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Boys

hiya,
Exactly ditto,
thanks harry, long retired.

No John is probably still feeling the effects of his 67th birthday party, he was supping brandy when I spoke to him on Skype, it may take him weeks to ween off of it!   He use to be a Bacardi & coke drinker, half a glass of Bacardi and four drops of coke,   I could never drink it that strong.

What were the wages like on that job Norm ? I would think they would be much higher than doing UK work.
Cheers Dave.

On brs about 30/35 pounds £5 night out.BRS Overland £100 +£12 every night away.

Good money for those days then Norm, plus you wouldn’t spend a lot on that job I wouldn’t think.
Cheers Dave.

Yes it was Dave, about £75 went into the bank after stoppages, we collected our night out money when we got back, we tried to make a few perks work for us on the trip.

I thought I did well to save half my wages Norm, you did much better than me.Then I would blow my savings on a car.
Cheers Dave.

Well Dave you have got to have wheels.   Use to buy several goods I could flog in the commie countries, one that was quite popular was " Wriggles" chewing gum,   they used to call it " Cow Gummy", I could get rid of boxes of it, and barter with it for almost anything I desired!   :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Nothing has really changed Norm.I still spend a lot of time looking at vehicles, which I fancy, but thankfully most of them are out of my price range.
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave, but you have shown me quite a few decent vehicles you have owned, I only had ten, one new one Fiat Tipo, just think if you got a few moe dogs, you could run a sleigh or sledge.

Have owned a total of 14 vehicles Norm, had nine new vehicles, plus a scooter and a couple of motorbikes.
The transit which I still have and use is the longest I’ve owned,13 years. My sprinter will have been here 7 years in April. These have been here the longest.A Ford Anglia I had in the 1960’s was here the shortest,10 months.I didn’t like the thing, yet my Dad had a new one in 1960 and run it for 12 years until it was scrapped.
Cheers Dave.

Dave I liked new vehicles    , I just didn’t like to pay all that money out, as long as I could get from A to B, and it started ok, and kept running it never bothered me, just like my lorries, my little Daf was one that never let me down, after five years I got a Volvo, then finished with a Scania.
