Never heard about the 6th January celebrations, most of the east Europeans celebrate 31st December like us as most are orthodox, and I have been stuck for new year in a few east European countries over the years and have always had a good time and made welcome.

To the op’s reply, I was due to load out of a German Factory on one of the holidays, but they were due to close on the Friday night at 18.00, I messaged the boss to tell him I was not going to make it, getting stuck on the A61 in traffic, he called them and said someone would be there till 19.00, after half an hour I had to call him back to say no chance, make it 20.00, got a message, get there when you can. When I arrived I was told to back on to bay 3, got out of cab, gateman hands me CMR to sign, I give him his copy, and told to load my 26 pallets, switch the light off when finished and close the gate behind me, happy days, wouldn’t happen in UK.
