Oh yes please! I couldn’t drink enough of the stuff when I was on holiday in Istanbul earlier in the year.
Have you thought about the ‘ferry’ service from Trieste to Istanbul? Its probably a bit late now but as far as I know its Turkish operated and mainly runs with trailers but also with units too. When I was in Istanbul I saw one of these ferries arrive from Italy, they dock on the Asian side of the city. Though a crossing of that length would take some time.
ianyng try the train from FREIBURG (D)–NOVERA (I) wilsave you time and
may be qicker than going through the brenner,
and then use the boat at TREISTE as one member had suggested,and then
by boat again to the ISLAND OF CYPRUS
OR you can try the train from MUCHEN–LUBINAYA OR FROM
WELS (A)–LUBINAYA IS ATRAIN I BELIEVE;
PERSONALY THE D–I TRAIN WOULD BE BEST AND THEN BY BOAT
BUT THIS IS JUST MY TIP YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS GOING;
THE SITES ARE ON THE USEFUL LINKS SITE FIOR THE TRAINS LINKS
AND THEY DO ENGLISH AS WELL;
WEIGHTS ALLOWED UP TO 42TN FULLY LOADED BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL THENM ALSO THE PRICES CHANGE WITH THE WEIGHT SO IF YOU ARE 38TN IT IS CHEAPER BUT THEY CAN TELL YOU ALLLTHIS WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE SITE:

When I worked for JSL years ago, we used to take ADR to Split nearly every trip.
Ian, was that in the early 90`s? If it was did you ever get down to a town called Metkovic, about 2.5 hours south of Split, heading towards Dubrovnick, on the Croatian / Bosnian border?
Hope your trip goes off ok, im sure there are alot of drivers using these forums who are just a little bit envious of you doing run like that!! (me for one!!)
How long are you expecting it to take? Enjoy it anyway, look forward to the diary and pics,
Cheers bullitt.
PS, there`s a company in Peterborough that runs to Cyprus and the Greek Islands quite abit, although its removals and not Hazardous or general freight, dont know if they would be any help regards routes etc to Northern Cyprus, they are called Nomad International.

I need some advice as to taking a load of hazardous from UK to Northern Cyprus.
I have been told that I can’t transit from Greece into Turkish territory.
Very unsure of what the plan is up to now - but I ship with it next Sunday.
Anyone know any SAFE parking along route - what route to take - ferry contacts from Turkey to Cyprus etc…
All help gratefully appreciated.
Ian.
Ian try www.iru.org there is a downloadable file listing all approved safe parking areas.
Just had a quick look but can’t find it but it is definatley there. If you can’t let me know your email address and i’ll atttach it for you.
Yeah - you’re probably right Hitch, although I do pride myself as not going off half-cocked!
Anyway, loads on, TIR Carnet sorted, ferry sorted, customs man booked, route sorted (Austria, Romania. Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, Cyprus), backload sorted.
Been told that I’ll probably be parked up for up to 12 hours waiting for an ■■■■■■ over some bridge in Turkey that splits the East and West.
Apart from that, I’m hoping that there won’t be any problems.
Decided as it’s our first trip on this route, we’re gonna double-man it.
I’m taking my right hand man Dave with me.
He’s only got 1 year on class 1, but he’s got loads more as a coach driver and a police driving instructor. We’ve got to think about security for the load as well.

i think i’ve had this stuff before, 1.4s is usually limited quantities and is found in every modern car in minute amounts.
it’s the explosive cap that detonates the airbag in the event of a collision.
it is hazardous by sea and will require a dgn (dangerous goods note), it isn’t hazardous by road though although it does require a trem (transport emergency card) card, this is now usually asked for when you arrive at a port or the channel tunnel and can sometimes be requested on the road in some countries.
the biggest problem with this cargo is the dgn, if it hasn’t been filled out correctly then it will cause major grief.
a full load of this cargo can weigh around 15 to 18 tonnes but will only have around 10 to 15 kgs of hazardous material all in very minute packages (less than a thimble full) and all packed seperately and apart from each other inside airbag assemblies.
i’ve known dgn’s to display what appeared to be a full load of class 1.4 weighing 15 tonnes instead of the small amount actually on board.
the best way forward is to obtain copies of the dgn beforehand, fax them to the shipping lines you intend to use then ask for confirmation back by fax that the dgn is ok and the shipper will carry it without restrictions.
Ian I now this is a bit late but the mian port from Turkey to Northern Cyprus is Mersin to Magusa ( Farmagusta) in the old days this is about an 8 hr sailing. I think ther is also a freight service to Girne ( Kyrenia)
