Craddock bros. from Coven Heath nr. Wolverhampton, their yard (slade heath garage) is still there on the corner of the old Stafford rd and paradise lane now used by a Browns, a truck sales and rental company.
They had a place at Ellesmere port, Avonmouth and also Lovell’s wharf at Greenwich where they handled imported zinc ingots.

Hi Al,
Look forward to seeing those, both local to me.Also my era when Longson’s Fodens were screaming up and down to and from South Wales.
Cheers Dave.
Hello Dave, another one before them to do, near to you also, for the Steel Boys, set at the Lazy Trout and have it done for them at Gaydon. Also will do my damndest to get to the Jacks Hill, which is Sun April 21st.
PS That Craddocks Atki was still running till early 1980s, old school driver, with green overalls and crew cut. He came into the ICI at Yalding one morning, I thought I was seeing things, eventually got chatting, i said that looks like one of Craddocks old motors to which he said - it still is - i usually have an ERF but its broke down so they sent me out on this! Good luck/ Al

Hi lads, not sure if we’re going to the Lazy Trout, next day out is Malvern show on the 16th March, then Gaydon in June, followed by the Retro in September, with a good few local shows for good measure. SBF10

Evening all, never be misled by the age of Craddocks Atkinsons, they were well used , but well maintained. They did have an eight wheeler fitted with an 8cylinder Gardner LW, boxed in at the back of the cab.
The family used to argue…which gave rise to some funny situations. But they were old school hauliers. When a lorry was deemed to require a rebuild, well that is exactly what it got. Right down to the bare frame! Then a hand painted refinish in Mr Dulux`s finest domestic paint! The man who used to paint them now rents a shed from me to keep his sons lorry out of the rain, and his painting skills are not deminished, he now paints Narrowboats!
I remember having several deals with the family. Some of the eight wheelers that I bought went up to the North East, to Benson Transport, at Ashington, still on 40x8s, and no brakes on the second steer. One day I was leaving the yard, when Alan Craddock shot off the veranda of the bungaow, and stopped me dead. The reason…the MK1, Atkinson, and 33ft tandem Boden, that I had just given them a cheque for…still had “good new” mirrors fitted…and he was not selling it with new mirrors…they cost money!!!
Thinking about it, whose were the slowest, Craddocks 8wheelers, or E A (Teddy), Smiths, …Hugh Porter, Olympic, and World Champion cyclist used to breeze past both when out training on the A449!
Happy days indeed, Cheerio for now.
Does anybody remember the Fodens thatwere run by the precast concrete works at Ruthin some were Chinese 6s and pulled trailers thanks Trevor
