You cant count mpg on a trip like that you will use what ever you use so what price you put in 5 to 6 grand at least let them phone pickford fone numbers they will tripple it or if they are smart send it in a groupage container
I,m sorry i just saw Van owner not that the goods are owned by you so cheaper will be overland slow but cut out the ferries
personal effects the shuttle used to let you travel as a car and ferries i dont know now 80 pound more or less the rest of your costs its hard to say its an adventure or how much is a van load of chairs worth, yes i shipped a lot of my things to the far east around about what you will pay, ok i didnt go overland
Johnny, its my stuff and my friend’s van.
salamat
I think you will find that your van isn’t insured in Northern Cyprus. I was asked by UTS to do a fortnightly service down there about 3 years ago but my broker was adamant that the truck wasnt insured in Nortern Cyprus on account of it not being officially a country !! as recognised by the UN what backed this up is that there are no direct flights accept to Turkey mainland.
Now I know Dolphin Intl run a service an may purchase their insurance through a local agent etc …having said that they’ve massive scaled back and I saw once of their trucks on BG plates
You are correct ND, you have to buy insurance on arrival in Kyrenia. Just the same as if do if you drive a car from the south into the north.
It will also need to be bought for Serbia and Turkey.
Driveroneuk:
Hi GuysI’m looking into taking a Sprinter size van down to Kyrenia, N. Cyprus with furniture & domestic items owned by me. Jumping off point would be Tacusu, Turkey.
I need to look at route, time taken (4 days? - 2 drivers), and cost.
What route would you suggest?
Probably use DFDS Norfolkline Dover - Dunkerque. Anybody know van rates?
So far I have 2800 miles (one way) at a return cost of around £1600 excluding any food and acccommodation enroute.
I’ve reckoned on 27mpg (van owner says 30 possible), average Euro DERV price of Euro 1.30 (112p), £100 each way UK ferry, £100 peage & tunnels. (a pure guess).
Anybody know of an online peage calculator?
Hi Driveroneuk
The route that I would take would be drive down to Ancona, ferry to Igoumenitsa, Drive to Ipsala via Thessaloniki and Kavala, cross into Turkey at Kipi/Ipsala and then down to Tekirdag where you join the motorway. Then its pedal to the metal to Istanbul, turn right at Ankara, then its a nice run to across the Salt Flats past Tuz Golu (Salt Lake)theres some really nice fish restaurants that sell trout !! on to Aksaray, over the mountain called Tarsus and turn right at the bottom, heading to Mersin where you get the ferry to Northern Cyprus.
Simples… innit.
Make sure that you have a couple of copies of the packing list stating Personal Effects, no commercial value. A Big wad of Euros because diesel isnt cheap anywhere now. Or a card, but Cash is King. Buy your insurance for Turkey at the border, your UK/EU insurance covers you to the exit border from Greece. The only place that you will have any kind of real formalities will be getting on the ferry in Italy and upon entering Turkey. A carton of Marlboro always goes down well for the transit across TR and plenty of smiles if you get stopped. The Turks are great, very friendly and helpful.
When are you going ■■ Winter is very severe in Turkey, and there can be alot of snow and ice especially across the Salt flats, around Aksaray and until you get over Tarsus, then it warms up.
Good Luck
GS.
Hi G S O thanks for the post.
If it comes off would aim to be going in April.
you wont get better advise than that from gs im a regular astrans subbie this is by far the quickest route if you do go overland rumania bulgaria give kapikula a swerve go from bulgaria through svellingrad to greece then kipi ipsala its 1.5 hours longer but they are more used to eec vehicles and if you have a drama it can be sorted more easy there get customs docs done in uk before you leave your gona need invoices packing lists and proberbly a carnet and a cmr note and possible a turkish permit the ferry from ancona for a van is about £500 you can book in london through viamare or roto tours formally pilarenous in patra greece when you get to the bospherous bridge istanbul go to the cash both they will issue you with a card put about 60 lire on it then use this for all motor way tolls just touch the box with card on entry and the same on exit it takes the money automaticlly no need to take a ticket on entry this is only for cash and cash is 20% dearer a lot of people will tell you you dont need this and that because its your own goods but trust me the right docs can save you days and turks like problems it gets money out your hand when you prepere your docs in uk your eu exit point is kipi greece its only 8 hours now to cross greece get of the boat at 10 am and your in istanbul ish that night the next night you would be in mersin for the ferry dont know what the weight limit is in turkey for transit permits but if you are under 7.5 gross you may not need one you may get away on t form and manfest for cyprus as well give trans asia in dover a call they are owned by kardir demir from izmir vary good agents and good luck and keep an eye open for us very few uk trucks get that far now only us divs lol
Thank you very much everybody for your advice & suggestions, some fantastic information given. Unfortunately the trip didn’t happen.
Anybody want to buy an unfurnished new beach front bungalow in North Cyprus?

It’s a shame your trip didn’t happen.
Your bungalow sounds nice. We love North Cyprus.
