The guy on the end is Mark ,Geordie O/D ,husband of Tracey O/D .They both had a truck each & hardly saw each other. Sound as a pound that couple.
Missing from that snap is the wonderful short/assed Dutch tart that got the job of manageress in Tanger for Breda.I think she was a Maureen…?
Sitting full on is Pete Morgan & on the left is Mark again.
What happened to Georgie Wales? Billy King passed away a few years ago.
Typo

Hi Harry

Not me mate! They used to shoo me out of the Breda office in Tangier (especially in those shorts)! But you’re right, there was a Miriam in that office. Robert:)
Not Morocco but Algeria in the80,s.I worked for Tentraco in 81 and 83 delivering cold store parts for the algerian army.In 81 we were running from algiers to Elasnam where there had been an earthquake and we were delivering portable house,s.Then in 83 we were running from our base in mostagenham to tamanrasset through the sahara.

Good pics Boyzee: full of action and atmosphere. I always rather fancied doing Algeria myself, before it got too dodgy! Robert

I used to see Styarnstroms in Tunisia, they were from Upsala or Gavle or somewhere up there. Red with black and yellow, sometimes white trucks. Never had much to do with them.I also used to see them at ■■■■ near Venice, and Tubifico. On a very hot day one of them sat in his airconditioned cab and watched as I stripped my tilt, on my own, to the last bay. When it was his turn he just pushed a switch and the whole roof slid back. The next thing I saw was him and the floor manager drinking coffee in the office, while I was building my tilt back up.

I’m not saying they were all like that.
Jeff…

Reg Danne
Hi Robert, unfortunately back in the 70s I wasn’t into photos which in hindsight was a big mistake as it would be nice to look back at some of the places I went to. Now with the smart phone I often take pics on the go, like today driving through the mountains gorges in Colorado, problem is photographing what you want and keeping the truck on the road.
Danne as you know long haul transport is a strange game, but most of the guys I met anywhere in the world in the transport industry were spot on good blokes, but every once in a while some of the had an of day .
It’s all water under the bridge to me I take people as I find them, no hard feelings, we’re all human.

Ah! No, I believe it was Simon Greg. The other bloke in the background was actually one of our fitters, who used occasionally to do a run with us down to Maroc when we were short staffed. He was great and fitted in perfectly; just a pity I can’t remember his name. I think this pic was taken at that service area just south of Paris heading south so it must have been a weekend. Robert
Makes sense-Rappers was always chief cook with his marinated curry’s.

Is it not John Piff in the deck chair??

And if it wasn’t Rappers it was Steve Boulton. Steve Boulton was a most beguiling driver: he’d always say things like, ‘I’ll see you at such-and-such a place and make you all a sausage sandwich.’ And he WOULD! Or he’d say, ‘I’ve a nice drop of Rioja on the go.’ He was brilliant to run with. As for Rappers: just wait for him to come back from the Marco Polo in Tangiers at 3:00 in the morning and get his bugle out to perform the wakey-wakey call. On failing that, Roger ‘Golden Blx’ Guild could be relied upon to set off fireworks under the lorries and bring the port authorities railing and scurrying to the scene.
Couhe was the place to be on the way home: the parties we had there! National 10 going home. Those days will never come back again but I’d give a lot to arrive once more with perhaps 15 North Africa drivers at Couhe on a hot evening, gather for Kia at the bar before adjourning to the restaurant. Simon Greg (‘Sweaty’ the one with the guitar) dubbed me ‘wine monitor’ because of the deft way I used to slip jugs or bottles of wine to drivers’ tables (whether it be Couhe or Castets or wherever) without the management noticing. Then he’s sing faboulous songs like, ‘All your friends are arseoles’ and stuff - brilliant evenings. Now don’t get me started! Robert

No, definitely not Piffy. Last time I saw John was in Hazeldonk. Someone wrote off his truck while he was on holiday and I don’t think things quite worked for him after that.
Someone on this thread asked after Georgie Wales. The last time I heard from him was when I still lived in UK and he was living in France. We exchanged Xmas cards for a couple of years before email buggered all that kind of thing up. I posted a picture of his DAF on this thread earlier. One trip, I remember running with George and John Chivers over the Spanish border going south. It was April and we decided to go over Miguels mountain on the N1 instead of going Pamplona. As we crossed that bleak plateau near Burgos it started to snow like ■■. I got on the CB and said, ‘Well chaps, I wasn’t expecting snow in Spain in bloody April.’ George came on the CB and said, ‘Well a lot of drivers don’t realise that Burgos is really high up - always has been!’
Deliciously happy days, that Moroccco work: dirty, dangerous but happy. Dunno why.
