I had this one from new in 1984 and kept it till 1997, just short of 13 years, then it was put on local and I got a 95.There’s probably not many on here that had a motor for that length of time.

anyone remember anything about James T Kirby’s - based on Black street in Martham??the yard was right next to west flegg middle school - I went there in 84 but the yard has been built on now
J E Kirby & Sons Limited, founded 1895 traded through to September 1990 when Leonard Kirby (owner) retired.
At the peak we ran 16 trucks finishing up with 5 during the last few years. Main work was Barnards / Tinsley Wire Norwich, Omni Pac(Hartmans), Fruit for Braceys Martham, Norwich Corrugated Board and Sugar Beet Haulage.Alastair,do you remember Trowbridge Transport from Sheffield, they ran a lot of TWIL to Barnards in the 60s and 70s.
No sorry bit before my time will ask my father, we started working for Barnards in the 60’s so am sure he will remember

…and still didn’t find all the gears!
Blimey, that’s true love! I used to work for a guy called Trevor Stearn (RIP), and he had both B940 MRT and B943 MRT. Don’t think I have any pics, but if I do I’ll ‘stick em up’
As far as I can remember this is the only bloke to be made redundant twice from Perfects. He was one of several that went in 1981, then came back about eight or nine years later after spells at Falcongate and Sutherlands, doing another ten years or so. One of my best mates also next door neighbour for forty odd years, he died earlier this year, RIP Kenny Roberts ( Robbo ).

If I told you it still had the original clutch would you believe me? Regards, Haddy.

I 'd rather unload 10,00 bricks(handball) on my own…and thats really bad

Same as loading that stuff at TWIL in Sheffield John. All different sizes coming down a chute and trying to stack a tidy load. Then weigh that customer off and back under the bloody chute for another, hated the sodding place with a passion.
Hi all!
Just found this thread and just wondering if anyone has any photos of a Suffolk/Norfolk haulier by the name of Roger E Mills & Sons of Lowestoft, Suffolk, who were a cattle importer/exporter. They ran a small mixed fleet of Volvo’s from the F86 through to the F89 and had a yard/lairage on Lowestoft Docks. My late father drove for Roger Mills and he was the first driver of the F89 from new. Thanks in advance, regards, CF85DAF

A couple of old boys from Mill’s days should be at my 65th party this year so I will ask them about any photos. Also
I have a book on old Yarmouth and Gorleston and in it there is a picture of a ship being loaded with cattle on the “Brush Quay” at Gorleston in 1965. The truck wasn’t in the photo but I reckon it was around the time Roger had a TK Bedford cattle float ( before the Volvos ) and I think it was painted red and green. Can’t be sure, it was along time ago. Regards, Haddy.
Hi Haddy!
Thanks for that! I only have two photos of my dad with the F89 but they are very grainy and were taken somewhere on the continent. I did manage to get two photos of my dad unloading some very rare Chianina bulls at the Lowestoft lairage in 1973 which were featured in the EDP at that time.
Oh, and I have to confess to meeting you recently without really knowing who you were! Doubt if you will remember but it was at the Norwich Toy Fair at the Showground? I was with a family friend who you know quite well so I am told and he lives in Bradwell like you! Malcolm “F” who works for MDF Transport in Yarmouth ring any bells? This is the guy I was talking about in my last PM to you, my sisters’ God-Father and one of my dads old workmates at Mills.
Spoke to him last week and of course he knows Gilly and Micky (and obviously you!) when I asked him about them. Says Gilly went on to work for Norfolk Line before retiring. Says he can’t remember if it was Gilly or his brother who rolled a Turners of Soham tanker on the A12 at Saxmundham/Stratford St Mary? Malcolm also told me Micky worked for Frans Maas and also Turners of Soham on the milk tankers.
Such a small world!!
Anyway, take care Haddy.
Regards, Pete
Hello Pete, it was Gilly’s brother Eric who rolled the tank on the A12 but he wasn’t working for Turners. I’m pretty sure it was a small firm from Burgh Castle, DM Vince. And Micky Rose went on,as you said, milk tankers after Frans Maas but I think it was for Eastons of Bunwell, I’m not sure. Anyway he was outbased and parked the motor in a yard at Ellough. Regards,Haddy.

Anybody have any photos of Walter Lanhams trucks
