Agreed.
The press make a story with all the shock/horror possible to get clicks and earn money.
They don’t get across a simple message that many vehicles do have manual catches and so help possible future victims.
There are numerous examples of cars with a default outside lock system also combined with double glazed side windows.
Which is as stupidly dangerous as gullwing doors are in a rollover.
It’s also clear how that manual door latch could be missed by anyone unfamiliar with it in an emergency.
So the reporting of people trapped in a burning car and dying because they could not get out is purely ‘shock horror’ biased reporting eh?
‘To get clicks and earn money’
Ok got it.
Perhaps they should not have been as accurate and flowered up the whole story until it became comfortable and acceptable.

When I get into a modern truck these days with all the electronic unnecessary bull ■■■■, I am well out of my comfort zone…which is bad enough.
So maybe I would have also crashed and burned …and been the subject of ‘Shock horror tactics’ also.
Reading the report it appears the car hit a barrier and burst into flames, maybe the driver was the only one familiar with the locking system but was rendered unconscious by the collision and therefore unable to tell anyone how to get out.
I would repeat that the catch to release the door appears to be well hidden and is not immediately obvious especially where a collision has occurred and passengers are in shock.
Perhaps at the start of every journey there should be an airline type safety briefing.
As far as “shock horror” goes if the headline read:-
“Four people die despite there being an emergency release system” how do you think that would have impacted on the families of those involved.
Facts like that should be left to any official report not speculated on in the press.
I would agree that having a small bright orange arrow would be a good idea to point to hidden catches.
Doubtless some would object to “the ambiance” being spoiled, but tough.
Although I feel for the families of the deceased, I do think that making others think of what to do in case of an emergency is worth any discomfort.
That news agency is probably funded by big oil to spread this FUD.
Ahh right…yeah it’s got to be innit?
I wouldnt know mate, I aint got any axe to grind on this one way or the other, I just put the report up as it was relavant to the thread.
So another one who thinks every news report is false from certain sources, because they don’t approve of that particular source, nor agree with their political leanings, or that it correlates with their own beliefs or opinion.
From my own pov the BBC for example is corruptly biased, but I do not think that EVERY report is wrong.
I prefer the open mind approach, then decide later.
All depends on the Tesla findings, If he’s been driving like a lunatic then.
Some insurance companies want Tesla to software limit the speed for new buyers. The amount of written off Tesla cars due to this is crazy high, hence insurance premiums going through the roof.
The model Y models come with either 347HP to 426/505HP, A family car with supercar performance.
This… Mine has 70bhp than a Porsche Carrera S. Imagine the chaos when every car on the road is capable of doing 0-60 in 4 seconds or less. At the moment it’s fun but it wont be when everyone has supercar performance.
Proper performance is measured in 0-100 and 0-120 not 0-60.
Tell us more about mechanical door release of the rear doors outside and in ?.
As in there ain’t one ?.
Hardly lol. I am way quicker than the Carrera during 60-100 making my 0-100 quite a bit faster than it. In fact, I am even quicker than the Taycan from 60-100. In many EV’s its supercar performance that that is likely to be dangerous in the wrong hands.
I am not aware of any vehicle in the UK that doesn’t have a mechanical door release, although even some more obvious ones wont release without power.
I find it staggering that any owner wouldn’t know where theirs is and the ones in the Tesla are not exactly hidden, although I accept a tiny percentage of passengers might not grasp it.
Worth pointing out that as much as I dislike Elon Musk and would love to knock a Tesla, his cars are very safe. When attending an incident knowing it is a Tesla you feel far more reassured than many other types.
There is some old ‘stock’ being converted to electric in the south east.
I have expectations that the station lights flicker a little when they commence the rapid charge, but perhaps not.
I was reading t’other day about the first battery inter-city train trial, It out performed diesel. 'UK-first' intercity battery trial train outperforms diesel | Electrek
