Passed my hazard perception this morning.Time to book the practical training
Well done on getting the theory passed.
Just remember to avoid brokers for your training. Go to a local company and deal with them direct.
There is a list of companies arranged by county in the stickies at the top of the newbies forum. Take a look and you might find one close to you.
Best of luck and let us know how the training goes.
To late for that, the whole thing was booked through a broker.all paid up.I found this site after I booked.wish I found it before.my own stupidity really.
We shall see how it goes, and I will keep you all informed.cheers.

The one thing you can usually rely on is that the instructor will do their best over the time allotted
I posted one example of how one broker works … I think it went something like this …
School = 5 days with test on day 5 for £1050
Broker = 4 days with test on day 4 for £1150
Broker makes about £270
Right it’s all booked with newcroft training ltd in maidstone.I noticed it is in the recommended training schools
Can’t be all bad then.
Anybody got any experience with them?
Cheers.
Good. I can’t remember anyone mentioning they have trained there before. Maybe a diary would be good
Will def keep you updated.Really looking forward to training now.Like a little bloody kid
Only problem is it’s a hour and half drive there, and i have to be there at 8am.Train,and then a drive back.I might try and find a hotel for the wednesday night so i’m good and ready for the test on thursday.
Cheers.
Good luck with it mate glad you havent fallen foul of brokers , if they are any good see what the price is for doing your c+e might save yourself something in the long run
when do you start ?
Hi all.
I start my training on monday the 5th aug.I have booked the week of work and staying at a hotel the wednesday night as the test is on thursday and i have to drive to maidstone from eastbourne everyday.Make sure i get some propper rest before the test:)
I was just wondering, how long is each days training,on average?
The crappy broker i have gone with hasn’t said anything since booking it,so i havn’t got a clue what’s coming when i get there.
Cheers.
Neal

Few months driving a truck and you will have covered the human body in car drivers. The ■■■■ are a little better than the ■■■■■ drivers, but there’s not much between the ■■■■■ and ■■■■ drivers. The blind drivers also known as the “Sorry I didn’t see you” bunch - are a worry. The brainless (normally BMW & AUDI) drivers - are the MASTERBTRS of the road.
Enjoy the road - as it won’t get any better.

pmsl so true ,
but is is the reason that everyone goes on about mirrors mirrors mirrors !!!
Little update for you all.
Well i started my training yesterday with newcroft in maidstone.Got up at 5am,quick bowl of porridge and a coffee and of i went.
I left nice and early not knowing what the drive would be like, but had no problems and was there an hour early.
The lorry turned up with some welsh guy driving, can’t remember his name, spoke to him quickly and he told me my instructor would be here soon. While we were waiting another LGV was reversing behind the lorry, then smash. He hit the back end of my lorry, took his wing mirror of and cut up his front end,no damage to my lorry but his wasn’t looking to good
Anyway,my instructor turned up and i can’t remember his name,i’v been concentrating so much on driving and the nerves that it just didn’t sink in.Oops.I sat in the passenger seat for a while while he explained a few things including the gear box,one of those split gear boxes.Man that was hard to get the hang of.Pull of in third down to fourth, flick the switch and up to fifth. What a nightmare.I was all over the place.Crunch, crunch, crunch, panick kicks in,what a mess.
Well after a while i got a bit more used to it,with a few mistakes forgetting to flick the switch and nearly stalling, but other than that it was fine.
The problem i was having was not positioning my self correctly on roundabouts and some junctions, not straddling lanes, clipping curbs and sometimes not being in the correct gear. But all in all it was a good drive. And i bloody enjoyed it
Day two, same again,up early,no food as it was at seven today,so quick coffee and out the door with some breccy bars and some sandwhiches i made last night.Quick drive with no problems, about an hour and half drive.
Met my instructor, and of we went.Great day,was really happy with how it went. Not really any problems with the gears, was positioning my self much better on roundabouts.Only problems today were hill starts, really need to get that biteing point. And i need to check my blind spots when pulling of,other than that,no problems. The drive back for my car went fine and my instructor just gave the directions back, but never had to correct me on anything, said i done really well.Chuffed.
So tomorrow i start at 10.15am and will be training till 6pm.Got the reverse to do and will have another driver with us,so will split the hours driving.Got a hotel booked for the night,so plenty of rest for test day on thursday.
Have to say,my instructor has been great, not too chatty, just correcting me when needed and giving plenty of advice.Top bloke.
Plus he bought me coffee
Well that’s it so far.All i can say is i’m done in,really takes it out of you.But it’s great.
(Excuse any spelling mistakes,i can’t spell)
Cheers.
Good luck mate hope you pass it first time…
Test day today.Really nervous now
Got a couple hours training this morning, then of to the test center.Just got to keep an eye on my positioning and hill starts.
Bricking it
Good luck
Good luck bud.
Hope you get a pass.
Failed
Typical i had to have the chief examiner
Had a couple of hours drive in the morning, the instructor said it was an almost perfect drive.Would of passed with that.
Nailed the reverse on the test, that was the easy part.
Failed about 2 mins after leaving the test center, car got up on my inside on a roundabout, and i pulled out when a car was coming round and he had to break a tiny bit.But that’s a fail.Failed on lane discipline, change of direction, observation and bloody gears.Forgot to flick the switch and got stuck on a roundabout.
Bit ■■■■■■ of with my self, silly mistakes really.Nerves got the better of me.
Anyway the broker phoned me and asked how it went, told them i failed, and they asked if i wanted to do a retest.I said no.
Think i will phone around, find a trainer, book a couple of hours training and a retest. It’s been an experience
Cheers
Ok.I have a retest booked for the 29th.I also booked 5 hours training with a local lgv trainer in eastbourne(wish i done that in the first place)
The broker phoned me not long after failing my test and said it would be £399 for a retest, and £60 an hour for any additional training, frankly they can kiss my a£$.I have got 5 hours training and the lorry for the retest for £365,that’s including the test fee
Well done for giving the broker short shrift. Hopefully you will get a good standard of training before the retest and fly through. Good luck.
