Forgot to mention, the wagon is an XXL MAN, no idea what size of engine it’ll have under the cab though.
I’ll do my poor best with some diary efforts. I plan to get a laptop very soon, which will be handy for typing up diaries. I also have a cheap digital camera, which only has internal memory. I have discovered the hard way that if you touch the battery cover, the circuit is broken, which wipes the memory. With a laptop I will just plug it in and download any photos before the memory gets wiped, which will make putting photos in easier .
At the moment I use a single use camera. I have to wait for the film to be developed, download the pics onto my computer, upload the pics to MSN, write up the diary and hopefully, remember what the pics were of. .
Whatever you do, DO NOT upload them to MSN - you’ll have no end of grief, trust me. Use the photo uploading advice in the photos forum.
You can get good digital cameras fairly cheap on Ebay now. I only paid just over a ton for my Olympus Camedia C-5000 Zoom 5 mega-pixel and for photo’s in my diary I only use the SQ2 setting at 640x480 resolution. On a fresh card it will take and store 398 pics which is plenty for most folks requirements. Have a look on Ebay and treat yourself.
Nice one Simon…hope all goes well for you mate. I handed in my notice last week with my employer…I dont have anything lined up yet but chasing a few leads so i’m keeping my fingers crossed
Rob, the TruckNet photo store is an MSN site.
I’ve been using it for a while with few probs. When my folder is full, I’ll try a few of the others that have been mentioned. Photo Bucket is one, Image Cave is another.
I’m going to treat myself to a laptop first . It was bad enough hauling a bag of UK maps around. Now that I do Europe too, my map bag is starting to split at the seams and feels like it weighs a hundred weight. I must have at least £200 worth of maps and a lot of them need replacing. That is one of the first things to get put on the lappy. A mapping programme, A-Z of Europe, bliss, no more hours pouring through the index, trying to find which Santa Maria it is, in Italy (for eg). There are two pages of just Santa Maria’s in my Italian map, then there are the one like Santa maria Hoe, Santa Maria De ■■?. They all have different post codes, but it takes a bit of time to find the right one .
Pleased for you Simon, good feeling to get fixed up so quick isn’t it? Just like the old days
The last time I was laid off (about 25 years ago) I had loads of plans to fill the time - reading, writing, jobs about the house. First morning settled down with a blank sheet of paper and a cup of coffee, then the phone rang at 10am.
Felt almost guilty at being disappointed, but as I said, it is nice to be needed .
Looking forward to your first report this weekend.
I got back this afternoon (Friday), due to a slight hiccup. The job seems pretty good. The wagon is also not to bad. All these little things take a bit of time to settle down into.
I’ll have to type up my diary, cause I’ve got no idea how to network my new (to me) laptop with my desktop. Tomorrow is my daughters 24th birthday so we are going over to ■■■■■■■■■■■ for a visit. We’ll probably be fairly late back and I’m off again on Sunday, so I might have to do this week and next at one go, next weekend.
Glad the job is going alright Simon. You have a nice truck to start of with, i think the MAN XXL is a great truck, well though out cab, the comfortshift is great and looks a nice motor too.
Like Linux-user said the cup holders are rubbish and the curtains arnt the best but apart from that i think there great.
Look forward to reading your diary.
I`ll join the queue in wishing simon all the very best in his new venture…
