It will never happen. The 13hr shift allows a Toronto to Montreal or Winnipeg to Regina round trip, Winnipeg to Calgary/Edmonton, Calgary to Vancouver one way and two days Winnipeg to Toronto/Montreal/ Vancouver. Any reduction would ■■■■ that up and require twice as many trucks and much higher rates
Get in line behind me in the lotto. Euro style hrs and tacho just wont work over here due to the sheer vastness and distances any fool can see that plus it would take a huge investment from someone to provide services to park in etc as there is near on sod all between the cities.
The GPS attached to the Elogs are not all that accurate Robin, I and others have actually logged out stuck in traffic on the GWB when we first got them because we worried when our hours ran out, it was then a 6 mile drive to Yonkers but nothing was ever said and when I actually asked I was told that nothing is triggered in the elog system under 15 miles so it wouldn’t show at HQ. Since then however we have stayed logged in when such things happen and just make a not in the remarks section as to why we went over our hours. also if the logs have ‘SH’ in the corner that means short haul and no matter where you stopped at night it automatically gives you the extra 2 hours after 6 day’s, it’s not strictly legal but it doesn’t show up as an offence.
I park my trailer in Fort Anne NY at weekends and bob tail 15 miles home, them back again the following monday, it does not show on my log.
If you “log out and leave the truck” on Peoplenet it won’t show on the log , but it can still be seen . Hate the things with a vengeance , have got too used to logging retrospectively I feel . Never taken the mick that much with the magic pencil but it’s been the case of do the job fill the log etc , where as now it’s do the job and try to remember the elog , must be age related . God forbid the day they become mandatory

^ This.I can still remember the shock of going from using log books as a council driver to tachos overnight when I left for the real world.

Didn’t think the council went far enough/fast enough/long enough to warrant a log book even…

I’ve forgotten all the differences that allowed log books here,in the case of council drivers under domestic regs,as opposed to tachos in the case of private commercial ones.Although there seems to have been some changes concerning domestic regs and tacho exemptions since the early 1980’s when,if I remember it right,it was just the difference between public sector v private sector that mainly differentiated the two different regs requirements regardless of the mileages driven.
As a County Council driver,as opposed to a Borough Council one,the daily distances and hours worked and vehicles types driven were no different to the average rigid commercial type local driving job on plant haulage and bulk refuse/tipper etc type work using a 16 t 4 wheeler multi lift and up to 24 t 6 wheeler gritters.IE in my case working for Surrey County Council that was an area which covered from London’s borders to Sussex’s borders North/South and Kent’s borders to Hampshire’s borders East/West driving anything from an old Clydesdale to 6 wheeler Fodens.
