Don’t set him off, his interlude with the industry was only brief, thirty odd years ago, but that doesn’t stop him thinking he’s the peak of transport knowledge.
9 years of nights and all I remember is sleeping and night fishing. When I started working days again it was a huge relief and I felt alive again.
I know someone who is a self described natural night person. They prefer night work and have a body clock that seems preset that way.
However I think those made that way are in a minority, and there are numerous studies showing harm to mental and physical health from nightwork. Mostly it is damaging.
What is also awful are shift patterns with quick swings between day/night and back again. That involves the harm of night work plus rapidly changing sleep patterns. Or indeed no pattern at all.
2 months of nights on 2 months of days off isn’t the same thing as 4 nights on 4 days off.
Especially if you’re driving a truck when you fall asleep.
Weekends just meant two nights off and certainly couldn’t face eating Sunday roast at 3 pm.
And this is why I would never apply to hoyer, they’re all over the place and your body clock wouldn’t know what it’s doing from one day to the next.
