My trip over to Spa Belgium Diary & Photos

euromat:
what do you mean about what gets taken to cardiff after the tour?

on your last post before your hols you said you were on your down the m4 and think somebody else posted somewhere about going to cardiff to tip then off on holijobs, just assumed it was what was left after u2?

Fantastic read & photo’s. If they ever want a chilled truck for the booze PLEASE put my name forward

Dieselcowboy:
, I have a few more pics if you want to see, but as this is your thread didn’t want to just stick em on ! Lastly, well done for getting there, I cannot believe they didn’t give you written instructions, including a map, and also warn you it would be a left ■■■■■■!!!

The one I drove was W11 HFR…this one was pulling a Stobart curtainsider on Tuesday with all the fuel on, hence the ADR board. When he pulled into the lorry park and turned round, the front offside tyre casing fell off! Imagine that happening on the road at 55mph! Map, instructions  …this is Stobarts remember ha ha ha

Please feel free to put some more pics on Dieselcowboy…that hill looks even steeper on your pics. I was on there but I had left the camera in the cab whilst I was walking about so didnt take anymore

I presume the cherished numbers HFR are from Honda Factory Racing, but did Stobart already do the transport for them or have they just taken the old trucks on for the newly formed Brawn F1 team?

was on here couple months ago that stobarts took over after honda pulled out and mr brawn put his own money up to keep the team running.

I’m in Spa as well this week, we get the old garages at the bottom of Eau Rouge, That’s our Volvo parked at the front of the que before unloading and parking up on Wednesday.
Get a great view of the F1 cars going up the hill from here during the week, as each one goes up you can see bits of the plank scrape off as it bottoms out.

I think Stobart are the first haulage company to actually provide the trucks and drivers for an F1 team, normally the teams own and run the trucks, but much of the driving is done by agency drivers. The only marking most of the Stobart trucks have is the diagional stripes on the bottom.

Parking for us at Spa isn’t to bad we have to be there by 9:00 am Wednesday. but are allowed in at any point on Tuesday. Most other circuits we have to wiat until Wednesday before getting in so they can clear all the F1 support trucks from our paddock. The teams would only get fined if they didn’t put 2 cars onto the the circuit at one point during the week.

If I wore a younger mans clothes or even if I wor a younger man, I would jump at it like a shot.

With the fines it was probably a BSB thing as the circuits are much smaller, trying to get all the transporters into Mallory or Cadwell Park without upsetting the schedule.

Cadwell Park this weekend for BSB. Indianapolis for Moto GP :stuck_out_tongue: I’m a happy bunny!

I’m in love absolutely beautiful

good diary fella - i wish i had the chance to do some of that work

good diary, great photos

but no mention of the Stobart driver who ■■■■■■■ the wing mirror off his truck when he hit another truck that was parked on the hard shoulder waiting for a tyre fitter

it shook my mate up that much, he was terrified to go to sleep when he was in the passenger seat, because he could not trust his co driver :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

you was right, there are drivers then there are screwdrivers

you’d think that screwing the trailer around like that would affect the tarmac even by a couple of millimetres enough to upset somebody?

Some great pics there…very nice.

With regard to driving around the circuit, I did a bit for Ecclestones mob (not that long though!!) Formula one Administration as it was called then, and we were told that the circuit was one way only, the race direction, and you were not allowed to drive the other way round, even if it was a shorter distance to where you wanted to get to!!

Anyone who broke the rule was usually waterboarded then taken away and shot!!!
