isn"t that a Landtrain ?
Yes a Leyland Land Train. It look very simila( same chrome, bull bar etc ) to the tipper that Leyland took round all the trade shows in the early 80âs. Jeff Ridgeway airbrushed some planets on it. He also did a black Road Train in the same themeâŚ

Itâs a Leyland Terrier with a bonnet and big wheels

Offloading at Baghdad International Fairground.
That looks very much like Peter King standing there with the white hat on, the owner of D454 at the time.
I would love a Pound for every time i have serviced / repaired that truck in times past.
Steve.
Definitely Peter King! The best subbie we ever had at Orient.

Friendly banter dear chap !!
And i seem to recall Danny that you and your Old Chap Tubby were also very good at dishing it out âŚ
It all helped to make the day interesting. ( Although Cordons Farm was rarely a dull place !! )

Im surprised that there has been no mention of the Stoke on Trent operators, â â â â Chapman, (Chapman and Ball), up Sneyd Hill. Or the Markham-Burgess âBalletâ, Thor Transport, down Chemical Lane, or Ron Carman up at Scholar Green, plus the myriad of subcontractors on traction only. Let alone the Cheshire boys, and Mancunians, or the Scottish contingent. There are loads to write aboutâŚit was not a âsouthern monopolyâ!

Read through this thread on âOld firms from Stoke on Trentâ, theyâre all there, plus there are the two books, âNorth Staffordshire Hauliersâ, and, âStaffordshire Hauliers Twoâ.
Thereâs a thread on here about the Scottish M/E drivers⌠Dave Mackie, Davie Diog, Frank White, Esk Side, Cargo International. Jimmy Hill lived in Jedburgh and drove one of Van Heeâs F88 draw bars. Alex Pete⌠Kenny Rene⌠Barry Lacy who used to run Grampian International, his dad was big with Essex International, Just over the border was Dickinson with their red Volvos, very often their trucks are seen on photos of far off placesâŚ

topic please explain tip top 495 what is reverence " ignorance like spanish in scandinavia " i have never heard it before is it a derogatory term used to define the spanish or just a saying",like taking coal to newcastle" no doubt they would have been cold and lost in scandinavia and back in the 70s they did not have much infrastructure, yes they would have been lost i think i get it now.rich meets poor⌠also maybe reverence to the ports that men sailed to morocco from spainâŚ
Evening all ,great thread jazzandy .What about the lads from here in yorkshire any one got any photos of archbold from leeds or arthur green from steeton also there were firms out of bradford ,kelly brown ran scanias .Keep up the good work.

But I must say that for me the real heroes are those blokes that drove for the Iranian and Afgan companies that were running to Germany long before we even knew where the place was. Just imagine doing regular trips Tehran to Hamburg in that Austin rigid, or come to that the old Mack, with the very short looking headboard sleeper. Thatâs what heroes were made of!David
I used to see the Iranians come into Concorezzo in 63 / 64 / 65 and they had very old Macs, worn out tyres, no workable brakes on the trailers, but they used to line them all up well. They would buy Levi Jeans etc and wear them with pride, they would sit there for 3 to 4 weeks awaiting there return loads and never any problems.
Instantly recognisable in the second pic down on the left is John âGoldyâ Golding from Brit Europeanâs Trowbridge depot. Iâm not sure if the driver on the right is Dave Prosser who had the second of the two new Transcons, I had the one based at Stoke.
On one trip, Goldy gave a lift to an Australian bird who told him daddy had a trucking firm in Oz. Next thing, Goldy is off down under for a job and has not been seen since!

Hey, I meant that as I was replaying to John that it was, we didnât know wat was coming towards us
if we ran at first to the M/E.
The same as Spanish drivers drove in winter to Scandinavia in those days for the first time.
