Middle East - Not Astran!

Intresting little advert from 1975. Remember reading about a few companies that went out and recovered broken down and accident
damaged trucks for insurance companies etc.

I wonder if any of those M/E recovery outfits ever worked in cahoots with Fred Topham, the copper who used to suss out lost and abandoned lorries and loads with his Granada estate.

Brilliant. What would the odds be that a member on here was there when that pic was taken.

Interesting reading that, of all my trips from 76 to 78 I never had to join a convoy through Jordan, the only one I did once in 77 was from the hills above Damascus down into Damascus escorted by the military, there was the normal convoy into Kuwait every trip though, it mentions the rough and narrow roads not wide enough for two vehicles, a good friend Pete found out the hard way one dusky evening, I met him at the Jordanian border in Ramtha just after his mishap straitening a few panels!!!

Could have been alot worse “Birdie4x4”, at least he was not killed. What happened did they get a local bit of welding done to get him home.

This article may ring a bell with you.

A big hammer sorted it, it had to be something serious to slow us down, we always found a way to continue the journey.
I remember Thomson Jewitt well as Redcliffe’s was also based at Sutton in Ashfield. I heard about the ferry from Grease at the time and often fancied a go just for the rest but it never came about.

I’m sure this Guy on Tahir has been put on before but I didn’t realise it only went over when the snow melted.
