UK Subs (used their kit)
Splogenessabounds (2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps, pleeease)
Working at Goodwood revival meeting met Nick Mason from Pink Floyd. Nice guy but quiet. Bumped into Rowan Atkinson. Again, quiet fellow but seemed a normal joe.
Was operating a flight from Manchester during a snowy very cold winters day. Wet wet wet the band boarded with everyone else. We hadn’t left stand when we had a tech fault. We were chucked off the air bridge by ATC to be towed to a remote stand. Auxiliary power unit then failed so no heating or electricity. Waited ages for Enginners who couldn’t fix the fault before finally passengers had to get off. All passengers grumpy except Marti Pellow who came to the flight deck and said “no problem lads!”
Oh forgot. Worked at a company who owned classic cargo aircraft such as the DC6 and DC3. Bruce Dikinson of Iron Maiden was presenting a documentary about DC3s or something and wanted to fly right seat on one of ours to an airshow. I was only a trainee at this place and got roped into coming in at 0400 to make sure the film crew didn’t drill holes for camera equipment in the thing.
The director was a jumped up arse. Kept demanding tea for everyone. All I cared about was the free fry up I’d been explicitly promised the crew would buy me from the airline portacabin “truckstop” situated between 2 hangers and some trees that all us trainees and the freighter aircrew used (i was a broke trainee in my early twenties. Priorities consisted of finding food and chasing girls).
Bruce Dickinson turned up at 6am. I escorted him through and he started talking to this director. The director again demanded more tea- no sign of the fry up. I think Bruce Dickinson realised I’d had 2 hours of this blokes ball ache and offered to help me so we together wondered off into the offices where he helped me make 10 cups of tea. All he wanted to talk about was aircraft. The bloke was obsessed with flying. A really nice guy.

Met quite a few F1 racing drivers many before they were in F1.
Most of the top racing drivers I’ve met while working have been good guys who realise they are part of the team.
Allan McNish is the manager for one of our drivers, so he spends a lot of time in the garage. Nice down to earth bloke.
We looked after an Aston Martin that Rowen Atkinson raced, he did the support race before the Le Mans 24hr race and then spent a lot of time in the garage with us, he was very quiet and seemed quite shy.
Had to get Jackie Stewart out of my way several times when I’ve been making my way to the grid with my grid trolley. I’m on a mission and he was sauntering about.
But to be honest I’m not to knowledgeable about many famous people, it’s always other people who point them out to me.
In my lorry , I was waiting for a load and stayed in a small village near Coimbra called in Portugal,Tony Hadley and John Keeble and his band were playing an open stage, I spent the say with the lads, playing football and drinking Super Bock and Sagres.
Then it rained, they asked me if I could take off the whole of the trailer sheet and put it on top of the stage.
Mission aborted when I said it weighed a ton, and I knew they would scarper to help put it back on the trailer.
They played the town hall for a promotion of arts and culture.
Tony then played the Expo in Lisbon,so did Oasis.
He was very down to earth and a Jack the lad, up for a laugh.
