What happened to Geoff Hallam? He was and probably still is a top man, a real gent. I remember him operating his own fleet from Stallingborough and later managing other companies but not seen him for 10 years or more. Is he still around, or retired?
Mr Geoff Hallam Is Still around I am in contact with him regularly, although not in the best of health still as sharp as ever with his transport Knowledge.
I agree a better Transport man I am yet to meet a true Gent.

POP PANTON - I can imagine that he’s working for E.T. Morris & Sons at New York, whilst being a fantastic fork lift driver, when I new him, he never had a driving Licence. He used to live out at Heckington on the A17, I hope this helps you find your friend.
LORD DERBY
Thanks for your reply Eddie.
A little History for you taken from the Associated Fisheries Accounts.
- In 1961 Associated Fisheries acquired an interest in an engineering
company called James Robertson & Sons (Fleetwood) Ltd.; in 1964 they
further diversified into catering, operating in London, by the end of 1965, six
fish restaurants under the name of Seafare Restaurants (Basildon) Ltd.
and a fish restaurant near Leeds operated by Ramsden (White Cross) Ltd.
In 1965 Associated Fisheries’ transport businesses, Link Road Transport
(Hull) Ltd. and Hull Ice Transport Ltd., were augmented by the acquisition
in Grimsby of Humber Warehousing Group with 118 long-distance trucks,
79 of which are refrigerated. Link and Hull Ice operated between them
40 vehicles, two of which were refrigerated. Associated Fisheries’ total
vehicle complement therefore numbers 158 vehicles, 81 of which are refrigerated.
There have been further small acquisitions of transport companies in
Lowestoft and Caister

That looks like the yard in Grimsby on Pyewipe.
Heres a few more.
I remember when being a driver at Alford Depot we all had to go on a Driver Training course, It seems the firm got their money back from the RITB Levy. It was profit making, or so we we’re told at the time. Good Days
Boston Depot:- David Marsh came down and we both went for lunch to the George in West Street, it was good Pub food. We’d finished our main course and David decided to have a pudding, he ordered apple pie, he was really looking forward to it, when it arrived (David Marsh) there’s no custard, you never asked for custard Sir, (The Waiter) I never asked for it in a dish, but you’ve put in one (David Marsh) needless to say it came back with custard.
Is there anybody out there with photographs of Humber Warehousing/McVeigh, Came the (G) reg there were Lots and Lots of A.E.C. Mandators and Mercury put on the road, then came GUY’s Scammell, Foden, Atkinson & E.R.F.s, all followed. There’s was one thing you can say about Geoff Hallam, he was loyal to the British Work Force, by buying British Made Trucks, Units and Trailers.

You are quite right, with what you say, but not in the days of the (G) reg which I was referring too, it was some three years later when Lowestoft had 6 Volvo’s with day cabs (L) reg. When they closed Lowestoft these Units were transferred to Boston Depot. At this time Grimsby depot had three or four Scania’s added to their fleet.
Humber McVeigh ALFORD Depot Closes
Alford Depot Closes all the Men were finished on 7th August 1976 but the depot was Closed and all the rolling stock moved to Grimsby altogether on Saturday 14th August 1976. The Chairman of the works committee played straight into Managements Hands, by calling a strike, once that was over, the Depot was Closed and everybody including the Depot Management were made redundant.
Photos taken from a book I have called Trucking Down Memory Lane-by the people who were there(photos by Ray Newcomb)
5/6 pages about Humber McVeigh.Very good read.
Some nice pictures there John.
Heres a later one of Johnny Onions Heaton with his own lorry, still with the berret on.

If my memory serves me correctly the first foreign motors at the Lowestoft depot were 3 Mercedes 1418s. Harry Kerry had one, an old boy from Bury St. Edmunds had another, and I’m not too sure about the third one it could have been Johnny Rose.
