Mcdonalds !!

Bidvest rigids must be close on their mgw then, judging by the amount of frozen/chilled jammed into their wagons.

You work for Bidvest■■?

Rooster, I wonder if the Sommerfeld store in Morriston, Swansea had 10 red lights on the risk assessment sheet. Done it a few times in an 18t and it was a challenge getting in with that. Often wondered how the artics ever managed that store. :astonished:

Is that the store where the delivery point is in a narrow street full of terraced houses and MANY parked cars ?
If so,I did that store many years ago,the first week of my first driving job,I was a complete novice…due to parked cars I just couldn’t get in :unamused: and that was the very first time that I heard those wonderful words
“We’ve had artics in here” :imp:
After I’d done some modifications to the door of a car parked opposite with my cab step ( oh ! so that’s why they put a mirror above the door )…I gave up,and pulled 3 pallets of frozen UP the drive, past a grinning store manager :imp: …never in my life have I come so close to having a heart attack and committing murder within the space of a few moments :unamused:
I learnt more that day about driving than 10 years worth of DCPC

That sounds about right. The lane was that tight you had to fold both mirrors in and rely on the goods in guy shouting at you to stop. It was frozen I delivered too. First driving job for me too. Were you working for MKG by any chance?

I was indeed,I only stuck it for 6 weeks…I [zb] hated that job with a passion :smiling_imp:

Is this the access point in question?

google.co.uk/maps/@51.66516 … ZABUkg!2e0

Looks awful :open_mouth: I see the wall of the house has been in contact with a few trailers  Looks like they have put some double yellow lines down fairly recently to assist.

Iceland Timperley is good:

The busy road & proximity to the lights made reversing down there a nightmare. I think the houseowner must have had an account with Iceland to have his fence replaced.

I’m assuming from your username, you worked from Wolverhampton too. I was there from Jan 2002 til Aug 2002. I can honestly say that I actually loved that job. Could never understand why the struggled for drivers or why they had to resort to bringing us down from Scotland to work there. I thought it was an easy enough job and decent pay. Fair enough the trucks were a bit rough but I could live with that. Would have stuck it longer if my girlfriend (now wife) hadn’t nagged me to get a job back in Glasgow. It wasn’t just the job I liked. Enjoyed many a good night out in Wolverhampton. Are MKG still operating there in Fallings Park?

rob22888. That looks like the very one. Been 10 yrs since I’ve been there though.

This company should know better, risk assessments etc etc! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I don’t know if Fallings Park is still open,I guess that when Somerfields went to Co-op,it would have gone ■■■■ up,as I think Co-op have got their own freezer setup ?
As for the job, when I started,I spent 3 or 4 weeks on the Cheshire/North Wales run, which wasn’t too bad…but when they started switching me to different runs I’d had enough,no prior notice as to where you were going,so you couldn’t do any planning :imp: ,and this was in the pre Satnav era :unamused:
And yes Rob,that is indeed the place…it is imprinted forever in my memory, along with all my other trucking disasters

Nearly every Mcdonalds fast food outlet is run by school kids and teenagers.I wouldn’t think there is anyone who knows anything about transport in the organisation.

The staff are robots. If you ask for one item they are brain washed to ask you if you want a large meal.
You have to repeat what you want.It is the same all over the Uk.
Their coffee is good and cheap.

Or food

Or customer service

And as of late, English!

Bloody Hell Dave, I’ve worked at transport companies like that.

Must be something about MKG … that was one of my very first jobs too. I worked out of the Wolverhampton depot on agency in around 1999, on class 2 motors.
We never got delivery addresses, as I remember, just a run sheet with helpful information such as “Sheffield Central”, “Doncaster (Rossington)” or “Tetbury”. We were given the keys and the run sheet and sent on our way. I stuck it for about three weeks. The transport manager - Steve, I think - was an arse, and he talked down to the drivers like he was Lord God Almighty. However, a few years later I was the shunter in a yard where we used demountables, and he turned up on the agency. It transpired he couldn’t drive to save his life, and he certainly couldn’t get the hang of the demountables. I made sure I was always on hand to watch him and offer “helpful” advice when he came into the yard, and mysteriously, the boxes he required were always in awkward tight corners of the yard. Don’t know how that happened.

I went to MKG cos they were one of the only places that would take me in just after passing my class 2. They obviously had to resort to taking on newbies cos nobody else seemed to want to work for them.

Can’t remember the TMs name off the top of my head, but there was a manager there called Bill Morrison. He was from Glasgow.

Can’t remember the shunters name either. An old guy with glasses and flat cap. He hated us jocks cos he couldn’t understand a word we said.:lol::lol:

I forgot that they never gave you a proper store address, but it was never really an issue cos a Sommerfeld or Kwik Save tended to be easy to find in most of the small towns or villages they were in. Although it was 12 yrs ago I was there, it was pre satnav/smart phone days, so I never bothered about the address anyway.

Off topic and racist posts removed ! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I’m not racist. I’m half Polish,

Why does such a big company have 45ft hgv lorry,s deliver their goods? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

They could use rigids or 7 1/2 tonners ,their carparks aren,t designed for a massive truck and trailer ,and most are now open 24hours !

It,s just a matter of time before some granny or little kiddy gets hurt! And boy racer shoots behind the reversing trailer to get his happy meal, and gets his fiesta st whacked! :unamused:

This company should know better, risk assessments etc etc! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Personally i,d block the entrance and walk it in! :unamused:

I’m sure this guy is asking the very same question!!
Thing is, there isn’t even a McDonalds anywhere near this incident!!
