MAT TRANSPORT

Well, I saw John get out of a MAT tractor at the M2 services. This would have been about 1990 when I was on Russel Davies. I remember him sneering at me for working on RD. In actual fact RD was a pretty good job. Certainly not the worst I’ve ever had.

I remember Peter, his brother. Lovely bloke.

hiya,
remember cliff leader he drove bowkers first scania the vabis model, thanks harry long retired

Best job i ever had. Worked for a local subby on the Honda contract doing 3x Swindon - Gent a week. Done it for 6 years until the job went “■■■■ up” about 2 years ago
Roger Haydock was in charge then but dealt mainly with Steve Knight(Dover office)

When my wife and I were running Italy back in 1983 for WhiteTrux we got very friendly, and met frequently, a MAT driver by the name of Angus. He was sort of portly and about 50ish. Anyone know him and what became of him?

Did You work for Bonds then?
I used to see you parked up at Hondas in Gent when I went down to the IDS station. Remember talking to one of them on the train who had a story about snapping something quite personal

Sounds like him Harry, thanks for that, would be nice to know of his whereabouts, unlike many on here I remember few of the old names and faces.

Angus was with us at Hull all the time MAT was in Hull, he was on Bowkers before that, then did a bit with Barry Read on Fridges before arriving at MAT. When MAT moved to Milton Keynes Angus moved too. Last time I saw him was in the late 70s at the Bakehouse, he was driving for somebody down South and wasnt very Happy, I `ve never seen him since, I hope he´s still getting on OK.

:sunglasses: did anyone on this site work for MAT FRIGO out of IRELAND in the late sixties/seventies, i was subbying for them out of southern ireland, hanging meat, mainly out of middleton near cork, but did some out of leagueslip(check the spelling)as well, thats when you had to go ventimilla, the guy in the office was named TONY STONE would love to catch up with him, a great bloke, wonder what happened to him, last time i heard he was at peterborough, then moved on and lost contact with him.THOSE WERE THE DAYS,WASH YOUR MOTOR FOR A £1. rexyu IF YOU READ THIS CAN YOU TELL ME IF THE OLD COMPANY HAS A SITE ON HERE,(SCA)regards bev. :unamused: :unamused:

Does any “old time” MAT driver remember a Bill Elliot ? I remember he spoke fluent French & Italian – met him a few times at Carisio approx 20 to 25 yrs ago ! Pretty sure he was on for MAT at Milton Keynes or Hull !

I seem to vaguely remember the name Bill Elliott on MAT, but I can`t for the life of me picture him. Mind you 20 - 25 years ago he was probably working from Milton Keynes, MAT moved the International office tthere in I978. That´s when I left them to go to Whittles.

worked for mat for a decade any one got any old photoes of the dafs scanias mercs volvos :
