There was a chemical plant in Holland set in the centre of an upmarket bungalow suburb.

Of course, there was the famous case of AZF, fertiliser factory, in Toulouse was quite close to the centre, when it blew up, 21 September 2001, it killed 31 and injured 2500.

There was one in Cardiff used for shunting, the shunter, whose name escapes me, didn’t have his HGV.
Does anybody have a photo of the old Bullnose Merc that was in Hull in the early days. People Street and Freightliner Road. Was talking to Freddie that used to drive it yesterday.
cartran:
Hi Cartran. I worked out of MAT MIFT Trafford Park mid 1970s. We used to haul TILTS and move MAT containers via Freightliners but never transported cars. I know MATs had the franchise to move cars by rail. Kev

I used to collect Astras from the rail head in Tyseley MAT had a lot of transporters in and around Birmingham at that time
MAT Transauto moved cars, MAT Transport moved freight, same group, different companies!

Hiya,
Archie, you must have been talking to Freddie Guest who worked with me at W H Bowkers,
the bullnose Merc you mention was a Blackburn based Bowker vehicle and like all the other
vehicles in Bowkers fleet would have been called upon to do work for MAT’s at some time
or another at any of their depots or port offices anyway the “bullnose” is featured on page
two on a thread entitled, Did anyone drive a “bullnose” Mercedes, might have slipped back
a bit but it’s easy enough to find, good luck.
thanks harry, long retired.
Here you go

know how to post or move pics about but there will be someone who can. Have driven
this old girl about 25 yards pump to parking up place It felt like manual steering or was it
just heavy.
thanks harry, long retired.
