A map showing the rough route of the Desert Buses between Damascus and Baghdad.

If anyone is wondering about the copyright of these old pictures. The copyright for pictures taken before June 1957 only lasts for 50 years.

Thirty years before Asian Transport started going to the Middle-East; the Nairn brothers were experiencing customs check-point delays in the desert. This is a picture of the French/Syrian Customs at Khan Abu Al-Shamat; just up the road from the British/Iraqi Customs at Al Ramadi.

Australian version.

I take it the Foden, the AEC and the Commer were some of Australia’s famous artic buses. Nice pics. Robert

Here’s another pic of your Middle-East Volvo artic bus, showing a bit more background with minarets etc. Robert

Marmon-Herrington are still in business but now just make the axles and transfer boxes for all-wheel-drive vehicles and supply them to other truck makers.

Thanks, Chris, for a great thread.

Compliments for presenting us this attractive marque! Not only known for its trucks or fourwheeldrive,
also for cars and many other applications. On ebay.com several documents/leaflets can be found when
you visit the pages of walter miller or autolit.com
