They’ve got a yard in Appleton, I don’t think they have 150 units more like 40. They also do a lot of work for ICL on containers out of seaforth, they cover their scotch work.
This is the max at each operating center that they are allowed.

We have had to drop our rates to more or less break even since they got some trucks in at a customer we trunk for. It is enough to pay our night drivers a decent rate but only just covers its costs
“had to” do that as opposed to just give it up as its not profitable any longer ? And, as a general question…What lowers the rates more, people quoting and operating less or people running about for no money just to keep the work?

I did not say dropping to keep the work, I could have posted that we have laid our night drivers off and that would have been criticised as well.

The problem is, if it’s ‘just covering costs’, then there’s no extra for that puncture, that windscreen when some knob drops a brick off a bridge, that breakdown where you’ve got to pay a subby to cover it, when fuel prices rise again etc etc…
If they can do it cheaper, let them. I can promise you that the next thing to be dropped will be the drivers wages, because there’s no other place to do any savings.
got a good mate who as been running nights for mark thompsom from around December last year and I know he takes home a lot more than £340 per week. I also asked him if the city link closure had hit them hard to which he replied , the drivers on the city link job had been put on other work and that mark Thompson had some sort of insurance that prevented him loosing out financially regarding money he was owed. This info of course is only what ive been told by an employee of his and not from the horses mouth so to speak. the guy does seem to have his head screwed on though.
