I have noticed that a lot of people join this site but have never posted.
Do they join to access the members only areas?
Do they read my posts and think “what a wally that ROG is, if they are all like that on here, I’m going”?
Is there another reason?
I am just curious as I had a troll through the memberlist and saw a huge amount of zero posts by those that have joined
Well ROG maybe there are quite a few people on the forum like myself who always wanted to do truck driving from being in school and never got round to it.
If there was an introduce yourself page I would post this.
Hello from Wiltshire,
Even though I passed my class 1 about 16 years ago I never used it until Recently.
It’s sad to say but I am an IT person, I was fixing a computer in a recruitment agency a while ago, saw they were adverting for HGV drivers told them I had a full licence. Well I now have a Saturday job that I toughly enjoy.
As I don’t do a lot of Driving and it’s always the same route I probably will not have a lot to comment on. This is why I will have limited pots.
because most are frightened of having the ■■■■ ripped out of them by the been there done ■■■■ all brigade YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE . they are the minority on here but drown out all the good, helpfull, genuine blokes .
youve just got to grow a thick skin , blurt out what youve got to say and ignore the stupid childish replies some may give .
Hi everyone. As a new joiner I thought I would give you my views. I joined after reading about this site in Coffeeholics excellent book. I drove artics all over the country in the 70’s (mainly Leyland Mastiffs - remember them?), but after injuring my back, I went on the buses (the load walks on and off - no handballing. This was pre GKN Chep). I have done some work for agencies in holiday periods etc in recent years, but have stayed on the buses whilst dreaming of returning to waggon driving. After all this time, other than on the Old - Timers forum I feel that I don’t have too much to contribute, yet it is still enjoyable to read all the posts about a job I thoroughly enjoyed doing. Perhaps some, if not all, of the new joiners who haven’t posted yet are in a similar position to me.
Best Christmas wishes to all on the site.
Les

Hey i agree Ady. I do enjoy your posts, they have a raw innocence that many people tend to hold back nowadays and at the same time you ask questions and make observations that we have all asked ourselves at one tomne or another. Never be frightened of having the ■■■■ ripped out of you though as that happems to everyone who is new anywhere, as you posted youse;f and told us of your apprentice experiences. You think its ok to bend a bird over for a laugh, i don’t. I think its ok to mock a newbie, you don’t. Perish the though we all have the same brain !!

Uncalled for and sexist I would have thought Mike, it just so happens that bending a bloke over for a laugh may well be a joke too far too.
As for mocking newbies, uncalled for too, unless they come in all guns blazing, which few do.
To all the ones on here who are a tad bothered about posting nonsense (in someone elses opinion) never worry about what you are posting so long as you are not being insulting or derogatory to anyone on here then IMHO go ahead and say what you want and to hell with the know -alls as you get them on every site like this
I have been doing this job for over 35 years (I regard myself as a “Golden Oldie”) and I still ■■■■ up now and again that is part of the learning curve (which never gets straighter) and I say “sod the clever gits” who want to try to undermine your efforts as if your big enough to put a post on this site you are big enough ignore the ones who take great delight in trying to make you look a fool and IMHO they are the ones who look like idiots and as for the lad who is not a driver “so what” you aren,t doing any harm posting things on this site even if you aren,t a driver (yet) as there are other things you could probably post about that can be just as interesting as driving as you can also ask questions as well so to hell with the mickey takers and get some posts put on here
I’m fairly new to the industry and have been a humble night trunker for 3 1/2 years, so don’t have a great deal to say that others can’t say better. But I will have my 5 bob’s worth if I feel a comment is worth it or if I have a sudden funny thought (I can’t take much seriously).
However, I enjoy reading most of the forum and don’t always have the time to post anyway. Probably a lot of members don’t have the time to post by the time they have waded through all the threads.
Nothing wrong with night trunkers mate as I did nights for 6 years and even after that time I still couldn,t get a decent weekend of sleep time etc. as I was fine during the week but at weekends I totally went out of sync (whatever that is) and tried all sorts of different sleep patterns but just gave up in the end. and went back on days but still took me 6 years to do it as getting on days were I worked were as scarce as the proverbial “Rocking Horse S***”
I decided that if I was meant to work in the dark days I would have been born with a pair of headlights instead of eyes
Each to their own I say and nights just ain,t for me
