I wonder then if the dab and fm leads are plugged in the wrong sockets on the back of the head unit…

Are there any non-OEM LED bulbs on the vehicle? Cheap LEDs can cause mayhem with DAB radio reception.

Actually, they may not be too wide of the mark. We recently obtained six double deckers, obviously pre loved and sold on for a reason . Everyone who’s since pulled one has suffered electrical gremlins in their tractor units. One guy is adamant that his radio stopped working after pulling one too.
I noticed when pulling one that every time I braked the dash lit up, not warning lights or anything but the backlight that comes on when you turn your lights on. Release the brakes and the lights went out! Bizarre.

If that’s the case shouldn’t the radio work fine when the led’s are not illuminated?

It should, yes - but turning off every single lamp while the vehicle is being driven might not be totally straightforward on a modern vehicle.

He is trying to find out if its working at all, he can be stood still and turn all lights off he is not saying he loses DAB reception when moving he is saying he cannot get it at all as if the DAB aerial is not connected.

That could be caused by something as simple as someone putting the wrong type of bulb in a combined stop/tail lamp. I once bought a used car that did much the same - the cause was a single-filament bulb having been put in place of a twin-filament job. The single contact of the bulb bridged the twin contacts in the holder, resulting in the sidelights (and instrument lights) coming on every time the brake pedal was pressed. It also meant that the brake lamps were lit whenever the lights were switched on…

Has anyone suffered from what I’m assuming is poor connectivity problems with their DAB radio? It’s refusing to pick up signals and seems to display the no signal message in the top right of the screen. It’ll be totally silent and then I’ll receive a burst of whatever channel I’m tuned to that last for less than 30 seconds. It’ll then be another hour or so before I get another burst. I’ve tried turning the master switch off for half an hour in the hope that it’ll reset, but to no avail. Any ideas please as my singing voice is shocking and is slowly driving me insane.
Have you bought any new gadgets recently. Dashcams, satnavs, phone chargers etc can all affect dab signal
No mate ^^^ , nothing that I’ve not had in it since new.

Not possible as they use entirely different connectors. Those windscreen antennas are a bit hit and miss. Might be worth changing the roof antenna for one that does both FM and DAB, especially with one that has an amplifier. They’re around £100 for a decent one.

Sadly not because the bulbs are constantly being pulsed every second or so to make sure they’re not blown and it takes a DAB radio several seconds to recover from a loss of signal. Have you ever noticed some of those car trailers when they’re driving down the road the light clusters lighting up briefly for a fraction of a second? They do that when the car diagnostic system is pinging the bulbs to see if they’re still working.
