Making a drama out of a crisis

a bit of googling revealed

Many people perceive that there are many illegal lorries going through Watlington, however the police
and trading standards have been checking lorries on a regular basis and have found that there are very few that actually enter Watlington illegally! On the last trading standard visit it was found that all lorries stopped were legal.

and this made me laugh

PC Ian Kent, from Thames Valley Police stated “Our most recent operation was on 08/07/08 over a two hour period (around 5 pm) in which no HGV’s were sighted and therefore stopped, but several car motorists were given fixed penalty tickets for speeding and mobile phone offences on the Shirburn Road B4009 into Watlington”.

The group’s chairman is quoted as saying they understood the necessity for trucks to come in to make deliveries to residents and businesses - their beef (understandably) is specifically about through traffic.

What that actually means is they want the trucks to bring their stuff but every one else can bugger off

Or maybe what it actually means is they want drivers to obey those nice shiny 7.5T weight limit signs?

if there are any

There are. On the B4009 itself and also on the off-slip as you come off the M40

LOL now there’s karma for you

They could sent Bruce Willis in.Yippy kar ar.Or shoot the next film there with 20 catering truck trailers.5 trucks for the costume/wardrobe department.
6 trucks towing the stars rest area or over night accomodation.
3 trucks for hair and make up.Then 2 towing the power generators.
A fleet of mini buses and coaches to bring in the extras.
Trucks with all the props in and scenery and then the lighting and camera equipment.
So ban the lorries while filming.

I was following behind an old double decker bus once that had been converted into a canteen/seating, the type of thing that actors, crew etc use whilst on location filming - the ■■■■■ that thing was chucking out (emissions) unbelievable !! without doubt, the exhaust gas from my lorry was cleaner coming out, than the air it was breathing in :stuck_out_tongue:

Question for Anti truck brigade.;
If the toxic fumes from lorries are so harmful, why do you stand all day for free in heavy traffic recording number plates to give to Trading Standards with no facemask or breathing apparatus.
You are happy for thousands of cars to transit your town and not spend a penny contributing to the local economy but truck is a problem.
Take Frome in Somerset. The bypass is only five miles to go around.
But the cars all drive through the town centre and not use the bypass.

As the place is used as the backdrop for Midsomer Murders, do they park all the lorries out side the town and carry everything in? Er no. Personally I use the A34 if i’m down that way…

The road was there before they moved in to these quaint old villages. Why do campaigners moan about new runways for an airport whem they buy a house nearby.
I used to park an Austrian plated truck in a safe place in the village.A retired ex milatary gent objected to this and phoned the police.
The bored kids tore off the ivy on his wall.It was my fault as the truck attracted criminals he said.
He told me to park up seven miles away and walk home. The police told me not shut the cab curtains as to check if anyone was ill or dead in the cab or not.

You can be honest now, how many packets of sweets did it cost you to get the kids to do that?

When I drove 6wheelers for Smiths I would regularly deliver along the B4009 between Chinnor Watlington and Benson (many places along there are too small for 8wheelers). Watlington is notorious for weight checks (Chinnor is outside the weight limit) although I never encountered them, a couple of times passers by did question my need to be there. One whilst I was actually tipping ffs.
Some Smiths drivers got grief from locals for selfishly delivering aggregates to the construction of their new library a while back though…
:unamused:

I love the picture in the mail, there are no vehicles in it at all!

Everyone should get up a petition to stop Jeremy Irons starring in anymore ■■■■■ films… darling.
