didnt goodalls have one over on the mi at sheffield back end of last year.
I was stuck in the queue travelling westbound for this unbelievable crash for 4hrs and 20 mins, it all came to a dead stop at 06.30 about half a mile or so before junc 27. According to the radio the first emergency call was made at 06.31…
Condolences to all involved and especially to the families whose loved ones didn’t go home that day. Makes you realise just what can happen at the blink of an eye…?
I have to say though that even though the delay was destined to be a long one not one person complained, not that I heard anyway. Although loads of people did abandon thier cars and walked to the nearby industrial estate for a bacon sarnie and a cup of tea.
I eventually drove over the motorway on the A643 and caught a glimspe of the carnage at around 11.30, what a mess.
Whilst thousands of people were delayed and the cost to the economy runs into thousands,if my brother, son, father etc was killed,i would want to know why and who was to blame.
Perhaps if Lonewolf can give us his vehicle details, when he is involved in a serious smash,as people with his attitude hopefully will be,the emergency services can just drag his body away and re-open the road in minutes
jessicas dad:
i was going past at 4.50 and saw on the other side of the motorway a quayside lorry from grimsby a bit ski whiff and a tesco truck parked up and also a stobbies. i saw the police treating the fella on the carrigeway and further up the road the amblance was racing to the scene. i dont think it was near a bridge though![]()

no definatley not near the bridge cos i was thinking about it today if he could have been a jumper. more like tried to run in front of the lorry.
I went past this west bound at about 0615 and there were two lanes coned off with the Quayside lorry still parked but with only two patrol cars for company.
The first I heard of the accident was as I was going over the Pennines about 30 minutes later. When I was coming back about 1600 the motorway was closed off but the diversion around the M621 flowed easily. Very little traffic on the motorway either way.

Thats right BIGGEE it was one of Goodalls and about 12mths before that incident they had a car spin out of control into the front of one their outfits not 1/2 mile from their yard on a Sunday morning. Car driver killed but inquest showed that the HGV was already stationary when impact happened and excesive speed and use of mobile phone where contributing factors in the car driver losing control of the vehicle. For such a small company they certainly have had a run of bad luck over the last couple years

Dave Penn;
To be fair to Lone Wolf, look at this from two sides…
Sure there were deaths and the Accident investigation was bought in, but with modern video and camera tech, plus the use of airbourne resourses, covering the scene should not take long, Highways can clear and cone off the M/ways pretty quick, then do over night repairs.
Also the people in the Q’s, Men, women, kids, pensioners, all just going about thier daily chores, all need to have a drink, some may need to be for a hospital appt, some may need to get home for medication, and many will need a call of nature, is it fair for a women to have to squat in view of a crowd?? Yet nothing is done for these people…
Sorry sure there are going to be closures, but these days its gone to silly lengths of time, and I bet health & safety has its oar in this as well.

Why be fair to him? He’s come on here just to stir things up. People have died for ■■■■’s sake!!
Lonewolf Yorks:
West Riding plod
You come out with a statement like that. Thought you were supposed to be from Yorkshire?
Here we go, another cyber warrior and an armchair trucker to boot.
Greg:
coroners have to be informed
Not if it interferes with lonewolf’s more important business.
Congratulations Lonewolf, you’ve just won Trucknet’s “■■■■■■ of the week”.

Stirring? Not at all. Its my opinion and has been for many years. Its tough that folks have died but life does have to go on.
You come out with a statement like that. Thought you were supposed to be from Yorkshire?
I was the last time I looked. From the North Riding.

LOL I wish. Theres definitely times when I would be glad to never see another wagon.
Congratulations Lonewolf, you’ve just won Trucknet’s “[zb] of the week”.
I see. People voicing an opinion which doesn’t conform with the trend are just insulted??

If I was cleaned up on the road I would be quite happy to be chucked in the ditch lol I don’t reckon I’ll be worrying about it.
i think vosa will be dishing out some juicy fines to all those with digital tachographs. you shunt forwards a few feet and it adds a minute. imagine how many minutes it could add up to in all that mess.
but i must agree to some extent with what has been said on here. why not use aerial or satelite imagery to take all the required pictures then colate the information in a cosy office.
people have died and an investigation needs to be carried out. we are in the digital age, so they shouldn’t be any need to shut the motorway for a whole day, just until the recovery is complete. they are using old techniques to get the same result as more modern methods would do in a tenth of the time.
p.s.
i spoke to a bloke at m6 diesel and he reckons it was his mate driving the lorry, he says the bloke smashed up both arms, and he has only just come out of hospital and is recovering from cancer therapy.
“i don’t know the bloke, this is just hearsay.”

It doesnt matter, you park up, do a print out and write on the back. Delayed because of major accident, or suchlike. the accident was logged, it was reported to the media police and probably even Miss Bell
Most people didn’t move, they simply put the tacho on break until someone else had swept up the mess.
The load he was carryin wouldnt have helped either he had just come from where we tip out so he woulda been loaded with bleach an soap powder etc! There warehouse got the call from the police about 20mins aftre the acceident to find out what he was carryin he could quite poss have been the goodalls that was waitin to load as i tipped on the next bay very sad when this kinda thing happens!!

Whilst I’d agree with the sentiment, and whereas we have moved far beyond the days of two 30m measuring tapes placed at right angles, to sophisticated surveying equipment using GPS technology, in order to record the data, it still requires the ‘Mk 1 eyeball’ to, often literally, get down on their hands and knees and ‘chalk’ the marks found.
Tyre marks are easy to see when the rubber has been heated and the path is well defined. However, prior to that point, there may be relevant information deposited as the temperature interface builds prior to the proverbial ‘thick black lines’. Not only that but you’ve also got the subject of ‘Projectiles’. Where they flew from and where they ‘landed’, as opposed to their final position. Whether it be a light assembly or a body.
Recording the data is the easy part. Identifying it is less so. And, as with any Crime scene, you only get one chance.
Collating the information in some cosy office is the laborious part. Time was, it had to be drawn out on paper with pencil. And then punched into a calculator. Now, I believe, it is computerised.
Once on scene, I’d suggest that most incidents could/should be recorded in about 2/3 hours. However, once that is completed, as explained in a T&D article a couple of years ago, the ‘scene’ is then handed over to the HA who are responsible for deciding when it is safe to reopen the road.
Frankly, I’d much prefer to see someone prosecuted, or exonerated, as a result of diligent investigation, than to have a wishy-washy result based on shoddy workmanship.
An update, as taken from the Batley News.
Dave Griffiths who was at the scene at the time of the crash said “I am one that always complains at having to sit in traffic jams on the motorways when there is an accident, without caring for the people involved,”
“What I witnessed and the horror that has been placed on the people directly involved, and the subsequent work the police have to do after the devastation caused, has greatly changed my view.”
“As people caught up in the accident we need to reflect on what has happened and be grateful that it was not one of us that was killed because the families involved are going through hell right now.”
Can you imagine the public’s reaction to hauliers if the media had interviewed Lone Wolf?
