M4 TOLL

Funniest one I had a couple of years ago-I was in Bristol, rang in for a back load & got sent to Hirwuan, near Merthyr, paid the Toll (cash, I got it back) got to the collection only to be told that it wasn’t due until the following week, lol. (the planner had got his days wrong) I came back to MK empty.
£19.40, 100ish miles dead running, no wonder they limit our wage rises with Good Organisation like that.

Good job they don’t Steal another £19ish out of your wallet on the way out as well.

The bridge fee on Servern Crossing is a shame of the UK,and the M6 Toll, Dartford Crossing isn’t different. It’s like in Eastern Europe where goverments ripping off motorists really badly.
While Scotland :
“On 21st February December 2004 the toll was finally abolished thanks to the unceasing efforts of S.K.A.T. Skye Bridge Against Tolls and of course the local protesters.”

N0rbert:

I typed that into Google but got very differing results from what I expected!

If I’m not paying the toll, I’m not bothered.

I’ve heard of you. Are you that guy that …Crashes the gate doing 98, while shouting Let them truckers roll, 10. 4 ?

Just catch a glance on the news,
M4 TOLL costs Truck £ 19.60
Car £ 6.50

They are battling to get toll prices reduced, …they’ve said that before :unamused:

Apparently it’s one of the most expensive toll roads in Europe when working on pound per mile and that’s just to get into Wales.

It dosnt surprise me , price of the toll is rediculous, the amount of people who have to cross to commute to work or during the course of work, & others who use it for other reasons. It’s a massive amount of money they are clawing in per day .

nick2008:
Let’s be fair who wants to go there anyway

I go anywhere uk where there is work

I think that’s where a lot of people who aren’t familiar with using the bridge get caught out. Quite regularly you hear about tales of those stuck at the tolls day or night unable to get home , no cash or card on them.

NewLad:
I went over it yesterday (once each way) it is getting expensive, I’m sure it’s gone up 3 times since I’ve been at this place (18 months).

They keep pushing the price up too regularly .

Lol  I heard that song on the radio a while back for the first time in years , enjoyed it too

You can cross and defer the payment this includes a £5 admin fee you simply fill out a form. You cannot be turned around and there is nowhere to park you cross Money or no money you don’t get a choice.

I don’t know how long that’s been in place. it’s good to know about that , but I’m thinking that wasn’t in place years ago.

trubster:
That was a quick calculation from Google - I am sure the route suggested has a weight limit or a low bridge on it.

If you mean the A48 Glos - Chepstow I don’t think there is a weight limit, but there is a railway bridge. Doesn’t look like the signs are totally reliable either!

This is what we paid our money for on the old bridge 30 years ago. The queue is to get into England with drivers walking about on the bridge. Must have been a lot of dead weight on the bridge.
If the wind was up a bit all lorries were diverted off before the bridge and only loaded ones allowed across.
It was pre paid ticket or cash in those days have they moved into the credit card era yet. I still have a book of tickets I wonder if they are still valid.
If you cross with a coach party make sure one passenger has a blue disabled badge because I think you get over for free then. Try it with your granny in a truck.

You’d have thought that the lesson learnt from the Humber Bridge would have sunk in. They halved the price of the tolls there and traffic has more than doubled meaning they’re actually making more money than they did before.

I haven’t used the Humber br. for ages, can’t remember how much it was but remember it was a bit ott. When did the toll go down, and how much is it now for an artic?

would it not be more appropriate for them to pay you to cross over into wales, then charge you £50 quid on the way back out again? surely nobody would object to that?

and what about the Dartford crossing,i heard this new dart tag thingy was to reduce congestion yet in the last month I have heard of jams as far back as junction 2 and the same the other way, that cost will probably rise sooner or later,i know the bridges and tunnels have to be maintained but I reckon its just greed on the owners part now, experts reckon thousands use the crossing everyday so I reckon the hgv charge should be a little cheaper, the same with cars
