The makers don’t publish the fuel consumption curves of the engines any more. The marine versions have more detailed specification sheets, presumably because you can still pick and choose which engine goes in what “chassis”. With modern lorries, there is no such choice, although you would think that the maker of a vehicle with a good SFC graph would be keen to use that as a pointer to good MPG in its adverts. You can’t argue with test results… oh yes you can- see above. The next two numbers are 9 and, I think, 9.

Oh yes A you can make numbers prove anything you want. Governments /politicians/ experts n scientists love em.
Of course 999 n ask for ambulance unless you,ve been run over by roadroller, 999 n ask for flatulance  Paul

Not surprising as it’s a fairly meaningless figure unless you’re comparing engines providing exactly the same power/torque output.IE you’d need to use two or four NA Gardner engines coupled together to get the torque output of one E290 or Scania 730.But the SFC figures would remain the same.Unlike the MPG figure. :bulb:

A bit like that idea of coupling up four 180 Gardners to get the torque output of one 730 Scania at the same 180 Gardner SFC figure. :smiling_imp:

Exactly C ,I once read an article that proved without a doubt, backed up by actual n estimated figures, that Germany won the 2nd world war. Although they did eventually.

Whats the score now with alternative fuels nowadays any good ?

The fast that they’re still referred to as ‘alternative’ answers that question for you!
