Lorries with Eaton Twin-splitter 'boxes

Regarding the clutch brake issue which has been raised several times in this thread - my Cargo 3828 unit fitted with an Eaton/Fuller 9 sppeed (RT11609a) does not currently have a clutch brake fitted, and they certainly weren’t fitted on such from new in Cargos. Consequently, gear selection at a standing start can sometimes be challenging - especially on a hot day, when the box is 'up to temperature '…

Edited to add: I speak purely in terms of Cargo’s fitted with the Eaton/Fuller 9 speed, which were standard on 6 wheel rigid and 4X2 units with the L10 fitted (the Twin Split was optional here and only fitted as standard on the 3828TS units). I don’t know if a clutch brake was fitted on the twin splitters!?!

This one of ours had the Eaton twin splitter in, & performed very well, Regards Larry.

This one to, with its 375 RR Perkins engine also performed very well, Regards Larry.

fredm:
little question was a twin splitter ever put in a daf 2800 ?

I can recall driving a DAF 85 cf fitted with a Eaton twin-splitter box , a very nice drive if my memory serves me right .

That would have been the DAF 85 (not the CF). Early ones had the Twin-splitter fitted. I liked the 85 and a TS would have made it a very acceptable truck to drive IMHO! Cheers, Robert

I stand corrected Robert , you sound like a man with a good taste in motors .

Hello all, from another twin-splitter lover, best gearbox EVER!!!jjust one snag, I suffered with repetative strain syndrome in the thumb and middle digits of my left hand resulting in seized tendons.
However a simple operation soon cured this.

I drove an F90 MAN like that with a Twin-splitter. It was a very good installation indeed. Robert

Nice one! I would’ve thought a Twin-splitter would be gift to a truck racer. Robert

Looks like Tilcons M40 contract from the M42 to Shrewley in the last pic. Lovely spacious and comfortable cabs those were with everything positioned just right.

Pete.

Hey, We got in Belgium the Twin Splitter in the 95. And had once an 95 Twin Splitter which got an
accident and stayed here.
As Robert said , the DKSE was only here with a 16 speed ZF, often soon replaced for a RTO9513.
Later with the ATI’s all were ZF’s and Fuller was an option which was taken a lot, the only worse thing was that it were not 4 over 4 gear levers, but push through’s.
On the 95’s ZF was the norm, but at customers dissatisfaction soon offered DAF an RTO or RT116/146 or a Twin Splitter.
At that time much loved the Fuller’s for the speed you could adjust with the speeds or let turn them the opposite direction for PTO driven pumps and so on.
With the XF the game was over. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Eric,

Thanks for that, Eric! I didn’t know that the Twin-splitter was offered in Continental 95s; though it was offered in the early 85s over here. The only 95 I know of with the TS in was this XF posted by Dan Punchard! Cheers, robert

Not me ,Steve Greenwood fitted it .

Thanks Dan! At least we now know that it was possible. Cheers, Robert

Bumped up to show how CF has been through all this before and refused to be educated.

Thanks LS, it’s educated me. I thought/assumed, wrongly, that the 12 speed twin splitter was a 13 speed without the crawler low. It apparently, in operation, is more like a Spicer.
