That looks lie Teesport Robert, I drove for Lex Transfleet on the Bell Line contract for a few months in the 90’s, this was ‘my’ motor for most of the time. Regards, Mizzo.

I thought those 85s were very nice to drive. Even better, some of the early ones had Eaton Twin-splitters in! Robert

Thanks for adding to the page guys…

These DAF’s were a good drive, they all had ZF 'boxes, they pulled well even at the then max of 38 ton, which reminds me of the joys of sealed containers, I took one to ASDA at Washington loaded with wine, the pallets all had an extra stack on when the box was opened, my calculated weight by ASDA staff was 44 ton. On another occasion I took one to Skipton loaded with German flat pack furniture, when opened it was up to the top, calculated weight was 48 ton… so that’s why it struggled over Blubberhouses!! On both occasions (and more) I thought I was overweight but not by that much! Regards, Mizzo.

Bell Lines container terminal at Tees Dock.

One of Ridings many contracts was the movement of loaded 34 ton Bell Line containers between ICI’s Terephthalic Acid plant at Wilton and the Bell container terminal at Tees Dock, a distance of only around three miles.

This movement was outside of the normal C and U regulations and was classed as ‘special types’ which enabled Riding’s to design their own specialised outfit for the job.
