If i would see him i would dhake his hand. [zb] the corona bull[zb]. At least he has gone and done it. How many of you heard somebody saying oh should’ve slashed bosses tyres, or left the keys and the truck and gone home blah blah blah. At least he aint the spineless driver and a YES man like 99.99% of us are. Well done that man
What sort of stupidity is this?
Let’s assume he is totally in the right. His actions will cost him massively. He could have got his own back without causing himself problems.
I was once promised a drivers mate to help with a job. I posted about it on here. When I got there I was told no drivers mate. And was told if I didn’t like it to clear off. So I did. Without getting myself in trouble. I also got a spare set of keys to hand in at RDC’s. All without incriminating myself.
You don’t have to be a genius to ‘get your own back’ as a driver. They give you control over an expensive bit of machinery. Why companies antagonise drivers is madness to me. If I owned a lorry I wouldn’t want to have unhappy operators driving it. You could pull a coolant hose and drive it down a motorway and cook the engine if you want… Knowing you have caused many thousands of pounds worth of damage with zero comeback on you. You just don’t video it and post it online.

It’s Facebook so it must be true, you can drop a trailer that’s empty or even with a load of empty pallets or cages and it won’t do any damage to the trailer
Nuts and bolts in cages all at the headboard here?
I would imagine that if the trailer were loaded - it will be a far harder job with two fork trucks lifting it up, because I can’t see “winding on low gear” being much help in all cases…

I think it shows lack of courage to do it this way. Like just taking a truck back to a depot and going home without telling anyone.
All because you are too scared to have a row, in case you are told that you are actually in the wrong or aren’t the superstar you thought you are.
If you aren’t happy, go and speak to whoever about the grievance. Sort it out face to face, like we used to…

Companies do it Juddian for a number of reasons.
You get the type of firms who attract these inept f/whits because they are well known for taking anybody on as long as they have an active pulse.
You should see some of the clowns at my place, these guys have actually passed an assessment also .
My lot have even took some of them back on after they had left.
You can’t blame the firms either tbh, there is a driver shortage out there, but not in the way the media paint it.
The driver shortage is in the context of a ‘Proper efficient professional driver’ shortage, those with skill and initiative, which is no longer the criteria of holding a Class 1 licence, as it once was.On the other hand unfortunately there is NO shortage of ■■■■ poor ‘‘drivers’’ ranging from those with attitude problems such as his, to the ones who have no skills. aptitude, …or common sense whatsoever,… just look around on the road ffs at those who share it with you…
So these firms hands are tied tbf.
+1 ^^^
No shortage of idiots for sure
Whilst i agree with yourself and Robroy, sorting wheat from the chaff isn’t exactly a new thing and the company’s hands are not tied, its up to them to manage their recruitment and staff better.
Usually the poor employees don’t take long before it becomes clear to even the most blinkered exactly what they are, soon as that happens is the time to deal with it, either have them in and explain what the score is or get shut of 'em.
A company does itself no good at all by assuming the now standard one size fits all management method, especially when its based on the lowest common denominator, a good example of LCD was linked to in the OP of this thread.
A company who assumes their staff is at that barrel scraping level insults every single proper employee they have, and unless they change their ways companies who fail to appreciate their competent staff will continue down the slippery slide to rock bottom. This bod probably will slope off into agency world, and more fool them in the area if they haven’t already saved that video for future ‘vetting’ procedures, but maybe agencies are as bad or self destructive as these dog eat dog operators these days.
People like our hero are no use to a company, and no use to the many decent drivers employed there either, but i saw another side to agencies whilst on them a few years ago, one particular operator (thankfully gone bust a few years ago) scammed the agency and wouldn’t pay the invoices, now my immediate reaction would be to let other agencies know the company was rogue, far from it, they actually hoped other agencies would get scammed too…wtf is all that about , the operator wasn’t worth a light and should have been blacked by every agency and as the word got about every decent driver would avoid them too, so all they’d be able to recruit is the likes of our video hero thereby hastening the demise of the company, win win all round.
Dunno if that makes sense to you lot but it does to me.
Makes perfect sense to me, too…
Client firms that are able to bully the agency - win every time.
Using the buffer that booking all drivers “On the fly via agency” permits, they can abuse anyone they wish based on “personal dislike” as well as the usual things that there are actually laws in place already with regards for “discrimination”… Eg. Transport Manager is related to David Duke decides that “He doesn’t want Mr Katanga in any more”… No reason needs to be given, the agency will be “Yessir!” about it.
Then there’s the “misuse of telemetery” thing:
If your driving “scores” are bad, they will count against you. If they are perfect, then suddenly the scores don’t mean anything, ‘they are advisory and academic’. Taking that break 6hrs and 4mins into your duty though - is Strike Two of Three before you’re OUT though! Three weeks of A 1.00 microlise scores - means nowt, when it suits them.
In any other line of work like Finance or Police for instance, if you used the firm’s computers to “get rid of people”, but NEVER to “recruit people” - then you’d probably fall foul of a number of laws somewhere, not limited to “Data Protection” and “On-Record Discrimination”, since firms can just as easily ingore totally any telemetary that would stand against one of the blue eyed boys they actually like…
If it’s not an even playing field - it isn’t a playing field at all. It’s just a jungle where the survivors are the liars in the highest places first and foremost.
NOT good for long-term industrial relations - is it?

He probably will get his wages. As it’s a corporate style firm. Any deduction of wages has to be agreed in writing, or for certain circumstances. Vandalizing equipment might be a common sense reason for keeping wages - but it’s not on the list of automatic reasons why they can do so. I haven’t seen his contract - but unless it says they can withhold wages for vandalism then they will be out of luck.
An employment tribunal might not want to side with him. But they would have to if not in the contract. And that would lead to massive costs for the company.
The correct way is to pay him. Then either claim it back using the small claims court - or by a compensation order if he is charged with criminal damage and convicted. They will make an example out of him I’m sure. If he had not been stupid enough to post it on facebook they would have zero recourse.

It’s almost like time elapsed between my first post and my second post in which time further information came to light elsewhere. But then again I understand you’re quite lacking in the smarts department so it comes as no surprise that didn’t occur as being a possibility to you.

How do the police prove “intent”, short of the “arsonist” actually setting fire to a person directly?
Don’t most arsonists - set their fires when “No one is about”, and when they think “no one is looking”?
