Here’s a little question… a name popped up in one post : Steve Stevenson . I remember him from the Portugal run late 70’s early 80’s, he had a Blue 2800 Daf and pulled for Partrans / Partricks , plus Aquila sometimes I think. A Pompey lad but hey we won’t hold that against him
Anyone know of him?
Cheers the noo.

Morning, The name rings a bell when I think of Mainland Market Deliveries (MMD) Flathouse Quay, They had a few subies on the Glasgow market run. But age is against me. Harvey
Being the 310, and in those colours, rather than the greens, is that the demo?
If so, I had a wheel out in it for a week. Bit of a step up from the ■■■■■■■ Atki, I normally drove!
Should have been doing other things today, but went through some old slides…
Dunno if Ive copied them sized them correctly, so Ill just put one or two up.

Is that one of Nora Battys stockings hanging from the bridge ?
Hi Tribsa…
I forgot he worked for Eurohaul!
He was an extremely funny bloke, you were never far from a laugh with Steve…
One of the last times I saw him must have been early 80’s , I did a boat down to Port Grimaud for Ken Brown Pompey and Steve did the ■■■■■■… I might have a photo somewhere…
Franglais…
Hi there… if I remember rightly , Shiny Boots had an 88 , not sure if it’s the one in the pic but it was the first Foreign motor at Lamberts, think it was a one off.
I note the trailer has a septic tank on it from Conder at Winnal. The delivery addresses were always in the arse end of nowhere And invariably an interesting challenge to find in little country lanes.

The only places where septic tanks are needed.
As a rule, yes.
But every rule has its exceptions, doesn`t it? (Some logical fallacy risked here!)

Cheers now, Baldrick.
That is XAA 288R, the first Volvo they bought. John Winterburn was the first driver of it. BAA **** was the second 290 Volvo bought, Mickey Winwood had that `un. A third F88 (an older 2nd hand one) followed, and Bob “Crunch” Brimson was given that.
That tank looks like a septic tank, but because its got 3 manways, its 99% sure an Interceptor.
Condor supplied
Cesspools: single tank to store sewage that is pumped out and disposed of off-site.
Septic tanks: two chambers that allow sewage to breakdown organically inside before releasing cleaner liquid into the land on site.
Interceptors: Multi (normally 3) chambers. They are mostly used on carparks and garage forecourts. Inside are syphon tubes, so oil/fuel etc which floats on water is trapped there allowing uncontaminated rain water into the watercourses and trapped contaminants can be pumped out and disposed of properly.
The original yellow fibreglass septic tanks were made in Winchester. Later on black plastic ones were made in Pontycymer near Bridgend.
The bigger tanks were made in Peterlee, or Darlaston, at different times.
There were some very big tanks made, some needing exceptional load orders etc, but I can`t remember all the details now. Lamberts borrowed and hired in trailers, and also subbed work out to Hills, Econofreight, Williams Shipping, and others for that work.

Blimey… I didn’t mean to start a thread about [zb] pits
I recognise a few names… was Alan Blatchford another driver there? Always wore a tartan cap… long time ago now…
Alan Blatchford was certainly there, when I was. Great bloke, he helped me a lot as a green young kid. If I remember rightly he had one of the Atki`s then a Sed-Atk day-cab, which later had a sleeper conversion on it, and later he had a Volvo F7.
At the same time the older hands included Brian (Flying Carrot) Barrett, Norman Bunny, “Little” Joe on the coal tipper.
When I started they were just ending their contract with Limmer-Trinidad, if I remember correctly. They had some Bedford tippers on the asphalt painted in the yellow and green colours, but with Lambert Brothers on the cab doors.
They had their fingers in many different pies at various times, always summat new going on.
And on the piccie of the Volvo there is visible a 45gal drum on the trailer, that was to carry diesel from the yard and save on buying it up the road! If you were running Scotch you`d often have one or two of them on the trailer.
Paling Stride in Hedge End used to do small repairs and paint jobs for Lamberts but they were a bit of a tight outfit, once when I had a unit being painted there (full job) I called in to monitor the progress they had a truck having a refresh tart up and they only had the outer rails of the chassis done never looked right to me but hey ho that’s how it was back then, Buzzer.

Yes, many a chat with Alan B at Jacks Hill and others… as you say, a helpful and kind fella.
The other names ring bells… there was one fella who was an ex postie?
Yeah I remember the yard men loading the extra diesel on , did they use top tanks later on?
I guess you must have stayed a while there and ended up an “old hand “ yerself?
Would we know eachother?

I did over ten year there.
Most of the old Atkis had twin tanks on. The 88s had single tanks, but did have fibreglass catwalk top tanks on, OK until they got hit by trailers on building-site and quarry work. When they went on Key Fuels and off the Esso agency cards the drums of diesel died a death. An ex-postie rings a bell...but I cant remember his name. Ah, maybe Ted??
Im sure there are a couple of other ex-Lambert drivers here too. I learnt a hell of a lot there. They took me on with no haulage experience, and transformed me from an ignorant starter, into an ignorant old hand! Did most things there: flats on ropen`sheet, tautliners, Hiab, trombone trailers with occasional Police escorts on abnormal stuff, site delivery, on site at Fawley, containers, tippers (although I never did that) and nearer the end of my time there they got into tankers on WimVos contract. A true General Haulage outfit.
