Hi Eddie,

I think you’ll find Contec Haulage came from Southport Lancashire not from Southampton.

Regards
Richard

image.jpgOops! My mistake. Sorry. The STD code 0704 should have told me that. Didn’t Southampton used to be 0703 ? Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks for the info Richard.

Cheers. Eddie.

Yes it was 0703 Eddie…Wouldn,t have fancied the drivers chances in the Daf…
Having said that, you never know…I managed to get out of something similar a long time ago
and i,m still here to tell the tale…

Out of an old French magazine

Thats a great find Dave, i,m guessing that would have been during your time with them.
Before my stint with em, but could well have pulled that tilt, though they were
eventually replaced by new Trailors…

I was with Jim yesterday, he said he was paying you a visit this week…see you soon mate.

Hi Tone…That Berliet was after my time, l was at the bungalow at Cadnam and that motor didn’t arrive till they were at Chandlers Ford…if Bev reads this he’ll confirm…think if memory serves he collected it from the docks to take it to the yard, don’t think he drove it full time…

Jim and Maureen are over on Friday, for a big bike meeting (20 -25,000 ) bikes on Saturday, about a two hour run from us, and they leave on Monday, weather not looking too good at the momen, hope it picks up. Look forward to seeing them .

Spent the last couple of weeks doing odd jobs ready for your visit, strengthening the bed, staircase, floors, extending the shower cubicle to 10 ft square, getting a one arm bandit fitted in the hallway, automatic fire extinguisher system to stop you smoking, hiding all the wine and beers, you know, usual stuff to help you enjoy your stay… :unamused: no doubt some of your “friends” will think of other things l need to do to accommodate you !!!

Ha ha Dave, very funny …dont forget to get an diesel powered wheelchair for me ( with twin stacks )and stock up on
electric cigs and cream cakes… lol

Hello All
Heres a photo i found recently. Its a photo of my grandad with Bakers MAN ROW 210M (not my grandads lorry) and Edward Heaths boat Morning Cloud.I believe the boat was hit by a large wave on route to Cowes from Burnham On Crouch,Dad seems to remember grandad loading the boat at Shoreham.A bit of info on the trailer used on this job according to dad if memory serves him well it was one of Eric Bakers specials built at Thorneycrofts.
Dad seems to think it was 40ft in the bed with a 10ft overhang beyound the back axles.Dad said it was a real headache. If this is the right boat the length would have been 43ft.

Regards Jacko

Came across this pic ages ago on F/B…cant remember whos it was…

A well known Southampton haulier…or used to be…

I heard a rumour that Martin Offer kept some lorries that Norman and Martin ran. From this photo it looks as though the lorries are left in a field.I assumed the lorries were kept in a barn or out building. What a waste.
Regards Jacko

Page 2 not acceptable.
Not sure if this is Ginger’s or not…a bit fuzzy!

Looks like gingers to me, with the bling on it…

A few will remember this no doubt, the old freight office ?
