Fergie47:
The Big J might be Strattons ? Nobby will know for sure…
Hi Dave. The Big “J”, I’m not sure but the Foden is definitely not one of Yardley’s. At that time it would just have been plain blue + signwriting. It was at a much later date that any white was introduced and that was with turquoise.
Regards, Nobby.
Hi Nobby, can’t think whose that Foden could be , but then a lot of the work was subbied out as return loads, so could be anyone from anywhere. Did the Stratton wagons have a headboard or just sign written on the doors ?
S W Bowkett from Newport Fergie I reckon, see photo above.

Could be Chris, I was in and out the docks over the years, there were motors from far and wide. Probably too busy loading, ropeing, and sheeting 2 or 3 loads of cape fruit a day to notice them all…

Think Jamesons had an Atkinson artic unit like this ? big fella use to drive it, Wally ? Always thought it was an ugly looking thing, but it had a sleeper cab…and when you didn’t, anything that did was the dogs, it was still ugly though, sleeper or not.
Hi Dave hope your all well over there ! I guess that would have been Wally Hawkins then (R.I.P )

A good show Gary, nice to see you there along with various other characters,Ian Elkins,Terry Peach, couldn’t find Terry Moody but his Volvo looked good,we also came across this well preserved gentleman Mr.Jimmy Alford, last time I saw him was in a German night club on one of Mike Pitters factory trips He looked well and seemed to be enjoying retirement.

Very sad to hear of Johns demise.
Not everyone’s cup of tea possibly , but I always found him an entertaining companion on a long trip. A great " keeper awaker " on a night run. Not many could out talk the Ocean Clipper on Channel …
RIP “Axle”.
It’s a small world!
my brother owns a Mk2 cortina 1600E and decided against showing at Christchurch last weekend due to the crap weather, he decided instead to visit a vintage machinery show at Lords Farm in Sheet nr Petersfield. some of you may know it i certainly hadn’t heard of it. The person who owns it would be described as a collector by some a hoarder by others. his name is John Digby Lovell read more about him here: dailymail.co.uk/femail/artic … -junk.html
The vintage show was a charity event and they also got to look round the farm at the owners collection. He phoned me later saying there was a B series ERF cab there in the same colour as Clapcotts Tankers, he was sure it was one of theirs as it also had pet-reg rear windows. he said there were no reg plates but he did note that it had RER on the grill instead of ERF. straight away i knew the cab was off YAA625R which was driven by my good friend Roy Edward Raggett. (hence the RER). my brother sent tme a couple of photos…
