Buzzer…regarding your last sentence about Symesy, you can’t really knock
him for that, it was not uncommon back then as we all know.

Hi Mick. My first lorry was a Thames Trader. Reg 2005 PX in 1959… Total recall eh? Regards Charlie
Hi all my first lorry I drove and owned was a TK Bedford 105 CYU and after that another TK Bedford WWV 298 and after that an BMC FG bullnose 23 FAA all of which I used for straw cart then disposed of them, Remember removing alsorts to get a weighbridge ticket under 3 Tons, Cheers Buzzer.
Can’t remember the first wagon numbers I drove, but do remember
My first brand new one… MOU 266L which was a Leyland Buffalo
for Luckets of Fareham.
Dad’s 1st lorry we operated was an AEC Marshall 6x2 Flat LUO 110 F
& mine 1st drive @ 17 yrs old in 1978 was an early Ford D series (1965) NNO 314 C a little 4 pot, was a tilt cab but had an engine flap in cab underseats for a lot of tinkering

I bet the first one you drove Tone had thatched mudguards and the log book was written in Latin…
That Jon Symes is a name I recall but can’t put a face to it. Did he do Portugal in the late 70’s early 80’s ■■
Also… Talking of one hitting it. I Remembera bloke called Dave Buck ( I think ) used to do Malta… With a Transcon… Mid 70’s. The year , not him. Had an XJ 6. …■■? Answers on a Postcard please.

I feel that I need to take you to task Balders about you abusive and slanderous remarks to that poor old decrepit man Mappo. You will be old and silly one day and you will remember today.I met up with him last Monday for coffee and he told me he had just come from the hospital who told him he had only two weeks left. I asked him what will you do? He said "I’m going to have the last week in June and the first week in July. Regards Charlie
ha’! Am chuckling to myself at that Charlie. Hope you’re keeping well.
Dave Buck lived in Butts Road Southampton, Used to park his truck there. That’s all i know.

Thought he was the one who blew the lid on bent permits and alienated himself to all Southampton drivers which caused a vendetta against him allegedly, of course I may have got that all wrong but something rings a bell, Buzzer.
Yes , that’s right I remember now Gazza… Not sure what happened to him…am sure someone on here might know. I guess he’d be hitting 70 now!
Don’t know about the permit thing JD… I last saw him in the Marsh in '76ish. Long time ago now, funny how this site jogs memories…

Hi Stu and theres a name a lot of us remember and would like to forget, Dave Buck! The first time I met him was back in the very early 60’s and I didn’t like him no more then than I did the last time which was back in the 70’s when I threatened to rip his head off and sh*t down his neck.
When driving for Reeves of Manchester he was involved in “The great cigarette robbery” from B.A.T. when a full load of cigarettes was stolen. We all knew it was going to happen six weeks before the event as he had a mouth as big as Bournemouth. Along with others he had a 2 year holiday at Her Majesties pleasure. Does anyone remember the event which was, I believe at the end of the 60’s, maybe 68/69 ?
Should you remember please don’t mention any names except his.
Regards, Nobby.
Ha! It’s funny Nobby but as I was posting last night it crossed my mind you would know!
I only came across Mr Buck a couple of fewt imes… Hardly a shy and retiring character and his own biggest fan. I remember he would park his Jag on the bit of pavement outside the Marsh. Plenty of room down the road, but nobody would see it there would they…
Nice to hear from you after all these years… Truck on steady. Stu.
