greek Moving smartly on, SCA started life in Eastliegh before they moved to Island Row, Mile End Rd.

Eric Baker had a company called B & D (Overseas) Ltd. This was explained as Baker & Downer (Overseas) Ltd. 2 and 2 = 4?
This is not correct the d in B and D (overseas) transport ltd comes from Dundee Perth and London shipping company, the b is bakers transport (southampton) limited. Dower comes from downer baker and w j hills the furniture removals and transport through out the world. Downer bakers and w j hill all operated from St Mary’s street and bakers wharf. All the companies above were part of the baker group of companies.
R-JACKO:
Hello Trunker08
Here is a not so good photo of one Bill Bodmin once of Bakers Transport and Henry Smithers.
Regards Jacko
Bill Bodmin actually worked as foreman of hampshire motor company which was part of the baker group at bakers wharf. Hampshire motor company used to build tractor units and trailers for specialised movements by Bakers Transport (Southampton) Limited also maintain the baker group fleet of tractor units and trailers including bakers transport(Southampton) limited and b and d (overseas) transport limited
Thank you Maxine, 2+2 does almost make 4 but I remember some O Licence discs and permits were B&D Overseas Ltd. and I was told “Baker- Downer” without any explanation as to who or what Downer was.

Somebody else from Sotton, with dark blue Atkis had a go at it ,but soon packed in. ( The drivers told everyone that they were getting £100 extra a week to drive in Europe with them ) They looked a bit like circus wagons. They were well established in UK. Don`t remember their name either ?
At last I’ve managed to sign in.Right on the bottom of page one.Not much to say at the moment. Just Happy New Year to you all. Regards Charlie
Happy new year Charlie. Jim, yet another cracking model mate.
