Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Don’t worry about a passport Mick, mine ran out years ago. We,ll just blag it.
As for your licence mate, me and Charlie will do the driving while you navigate.
Dunno where Charlie is, I,m getting a bit concerned to be honest.

Fergie…I,m kinda speechless…don’t ever ask to borrow my make up again. :imp: :imp:

On a more serious note, here,s another of Richard Greens photos.
Someone most of us know very well…A young Danny Moss

Nice picture Tony ! Can’t wait to see the others !!
Anyway it’s gone your bedtime Tone !!

Smith of Maddiston…this was one of two trailers that were used on the continent way back in the '60’s.
Smith had a depot in Belgium. Southampton depot had a Guy Big J in the same livery (SD435)which was driven first by Mick Hennessy, and later by me…Think there is a pick of the Guy on this thread somewhere…

Found it :- not a good pic, taken from a magazine

Bet that Jameson tilt was fun to strip out?

Mappo,There was no need to imply you was over weight or in deed you was a fatherless child, you can borrow one of my dresses, !!

Fergie 47, can I ask what engine was in the Guy, Firm I once worked for got a new ERF in place of the Guy I drove, I think the Guy was more comfortable to drive, only my opinion mind. T08

trunker08 after stripping down a few hundred of those Jameson Tilts you do get used to them , but was a fun time

He is overweight, and he didn’t have a father…you’ll get it back ruined… :imp:

Smiths Guys mainly had either 180 ■■■■■■■ ( which the Guy pictured had) or 180 Gardner, some later ones had 205 /220 ■■■■■■■ it was a huge fleet so various spec engines fitted over time. They did have a number of Guys with the 240 8LXB in, but don’t tell Bewick, you’ll start him off on one… :unamused:

Iff I’me correct think Bewick said S.O.M, had a few straight 8 Gardners, guess we will know sooner or later? or in deed “carryfast” mind he is a Detroit man?

Not botherd about the dress im’e due a new one,!!! its a bit flowery and passed its sell by date? My mate has gone quiet, hope he is ok,■■?

Over a week since we said our final farewells to this good old boy, he was the life and soul of this thread and kept it on page one most of the time, I know we all miss his inputs Buzzer.

HI to all , I am new here but what a great read on this forum .

1 of the old Phillips photos

At the SOFA do at Cliffy Luxtons hotel in West Bay last night a toast was drunk to Pat proposed by Hughie Hill

garystone45…:welcome to T/net…any more photos you have would be most welcome.
Who was your Dad ■■ There’s a chance someone will have known him.

Kerbut…That was a kind gesture.
You,ve obviously downsized the venue then, unless Cliffs place is massive.
How is Cliff by the way ■■ Perhaps you,d be kind enough to give him my regards when
you next speak to him.
Any pics from the do would be good to see.

Mappo
It wasn’t the big do, that’s in Bournemouth in October ,SOFA tend to do a couple of smaller ones during the year at Cliffs or a BBQ at Stuart Taylors at Longham , Ray Casswell and Geoff Luther normally organize them.

Thanks for the reply kerbut, senior moment I,m afraid, of course it,s
later in the year. I,ve been to a few of them myself at the Roundhouse.
