Loading Bays Areas : Designed & built by Idiots!

cheeky monkey:
My nightmare bays are Sainsburys charlton, sainsburys basingstoke (chilled bays) and wincanton luton, all make my heart sink when i see them on the daily run plan.Always seem to get them when it chucking it down and the yard is choas :frowning:

Sainsburys Charlton…
First time I went there I thought they had to be joking…Reverse up the ramp onto the far bay with a lorry on the bay to get past and a concrete wall…

:open_mouth:
Did it one though with no shunt and I was happy with that. You just know everyone is watching,

18months on lidl then you see some doddgy bays!!! all designed by germans so all setup for left hookers!!!

ayep what a ■■■■ of a place lol

Remploy in Baglan (Port Talbot) had their loading bay designed for left hookers. The building was built for Remploy from the ground up and they dont even have foreigners go in there so everyone has to blindside onto the bay :unamused:

But i would say that at least 60% or more loading bays/manouvering areas in this country are designed by clueless Saab driving shirt and tie knobs who have never seen an artic let alone designed the bay/area within their needs/constraints

The same goes for Remploy up in Wishaw I think it is. A blind side in the ice and snow…fun

We do 6 Lidl shops in the Highlands. No problems with the bays but at 5 of them have to drive through and manouever in the car park which can be fun at times.
Think our worst drop is Asda at Elgin.Very small yard with trays, cages, pallets, clothes rails, milk cages etc all round the side. You can only drive in then a jack-knife to get turned then reverse onto the scissor lift.

Would agree about Sainburys @Charlton - never on this earth designed for artics, and what a dump it’s anyway.

My favourite - not - is Union Papertech, Heywood. Designed, nay, built when everything came in and out by horse.

Went into Oscar Mayer, Tavistock for first time last week. Thats one hell of long reverse just to get round to where you’ll be tipped. Lovely cheap factory shop with cheapo Sainburys T-the-D ready meals to pop in the micro.

for shop deliveries, I nominate nearly all Wilkos stores.
Especially doncaster frenchgate, & huddersfield. both of which are underground, & req reverse pillar dodging (usually on the blindside)

Im with you on the Donny one!

good post.
who are these idiots, and whats their brief, when designing the loading bays.

a, must keep trucks out of public sight.

b, must, whenever possible, make it a blind side reverse, (whatever that is)

c, must, make sure, the bay, can easily be cluttered up, by skips, wheelie bins, and store rubbish.

d, must, remember, too always leave a transit size van/alarm fitters van/ builders van, strategically placed, in the truck only bay.

e, must, wherever possible, locate bay, in an underground service area, (similar too a multi storey car park) but with less room. and whenever possible, make sure all the lights, in the underground area, are out of order.

f, must, when designing point e, remeber, too put lots of concrete pillars in, the most awkward places, especially designed for taking mirrors off.

my faves, the bay at bluewater, summarised above, and argos, similar too points above in colchester.

As supermarket RDC`s ram H & S down your throat, do the same to them if delivery point is unsafe, I know I did and only got a lifetime ban as the supermarkets are all one way when it comes to rules

Robbs fore st hexham ,Woolworths fore st hexham great fun the pair.

Trouble is we ger to these places and think “■■■■ me!” surely not. Then we take up the challenge, get in somehow, and feel good if some pimply youth says “well done.” (especially if he then says that the artics usually offload on the road outside

Then we moan in the canteen or on here, and the designers never find out what they did wrong.

You can hardly blame the designers for the skips, pallets, parked vans/cars and piles of waste cardboard that often surround the bay.

BTW I also nominate Sainsbury’s Solihul - Blinside up a side road, then into a dark undergound bay with cars & etc everywhere. From Worcester they once gave me Solihul and Hull :astonished:

Aldi are the worsed , nearly all have steep slopes , just now i deliver milk and the full trollys run off with them selves and putting the emptys back on is worse! lol even when you lower the front axle and lift the trailer yiu cant win!
and most of the staff at aldi are right miserable ■■■■■ mind you think thertes only 3 on a shift so i guess there stressed? :unamused:

ahh Sainsburys charlton first time must have been over 20 yrs ago no one told me reverse in, drove in and did a blindside. didn’t make that mistake again.

Saw your post willie any where you not banned from whoops did I say that out loud.

macaw at nelson

if you park up waiting to be loaded , they bays marked on the yard are so narrow you cant open your door if a truck is in the next one

the trailer park is blind side ■■?

well i was going to mention this that it is amazing the amount of places i go to that are set out for left hookers. :imp:

Especially if you get there early and those effin greggs drivers are in the way, eh?

i have the same problem at car dealers, especially on these newly built “motor parks”.absolutley no designated spot for tipping or loading in loads of them, apart from the double yellows on the high speed duel carriageway outside.

Baylis, Leighton Buzzard is quite entertaining, as are several Somerfield stores in London

Yeah nowt worse and if cars are queing to get into robbs youve got no chance.

for me its gotta be 3663 at reading when its full wot a joke this place is. when i first started driving my heart used to sink everytime i pulled in there. it used to take me 20 mins just to get in a waiting bay.
